Greetings again stinger community,

Currently in the market still for a Kia stinger gt model and I have two options I’m currently considering. I’ve read reviews and researched about the stinger and my consensus is that I’m sold. My only concern is realiability issues after a year and main problems I need to be aware of especially since I’m buying used.

First option 2019 GT - $34,910/ 41,478 miles (no accidents) certified *

Second option 2018 GT1 - $34,315/ 52,564 miles (no accidents)

Just letting you know that I moved this into the main Stinger area. Many people don't check the forum lounge...

I would expand your search area a bit, while these cars are reliable, you could probably get lower mileage for the same or close to the same money, even in this market.

I’ve seen some black stingers in my area around the same mileage and some with less. I can’t do another black car though. It’s so hard to maintain on a daily basis. I want anything besides black lol

I hear you on that. I'd go with the GT for the price and 'certified' status (although it doesn't guarantee "new" or anything, it at least commits Kia to some level of support / warranty service), unless there's something in the GT1 trim you *must* have. It's all about your individual needs at that point.

Yeah the peace of mind is always a plus. I know the gt models don’t have sunroofs and the gt1 models do. I know the squeaks and squeals come from overtime with the car but if you could get a sunroof after knowing the problems ppl have went through with the rattles of the hatchback and sunroof would you get a gt1? Sunroof is not a big deal to me but if I could have it I would want it but not with the squeaks and rattle.

I have a certified 2018. drove down to San Diego from the bay to pick it up. only one I've seen with that. they have been a very kid to me when I go for a warranty . I'm not 100% sure if they know it's certified or not since they tend to just care about it being in warranty or not.

I've been messing with my car so I'm glad I've had a warranty to help me out. if I left the car stock I'm pretty sure I would of had no problems at all with the car

All Stingers are black: diffuser, C and B pillars, trim alongside the windshield, faux vents in hood, brake scoops trim (did I miss anything?). Point is, I see every little thing on any of those trim pieces and must get it off: an entire car the same color would just get washed more often is all. :p

My GT1 has never made any extraneous noises; the sunroof and hatch lid have been quiet for over 49K miles. I get very mild creaks out of the front Eibach sway bar: occasionally, for fun, I knock those back with silicon spray (yeah, I've had the grease put on, but it creaks anyway).

I never want a sunroof. Ever. Just one more thing to break and leak. And in the desert, even with a shade it allows warmth into the cabin. Not once in almost 30 years of car ownership have I ever thought "I need to look up and not ahead" while driving. :p

I've had a couple all black cars in the past, the issue with black paint is the swirl marks and salt/dust being visible almost immediately upon it drying after a wash. It's about surface area, it's easier to ignore small sections of black as you describe. Not when it's 95% of the visible car. It's definitely more 'work'.

Depending on how much you rub washing and drying, the swirling is less. I hardly have any on the piano black trim pieces: and I don't think that an Aurora Black Pearl would show any more than what is on those pieces. I wash with Optimum No Rinse, distilled and soft water (if distilled is unavailable, any dual filtered reverse osmosis water is just as good): six 14 x 28 inch white terrycloth towels folded three times so that I can instantly see how much dirt I just got off: only one pass with a surface that picks up anything at all: flip to a fresh surface and go over the area again: when it comes back clean, move on to the next area: dry as you go, microfiber drying towels only (I have four 2 x 3 foot drying towels): same MO, only totally clean towels, lay them down and wick them off slowly: the only areas that get a good rubbing are the windows. If the car is too grimy for ONR, I do not wash it twice with ONR, I go first to the hand wand spray and get all the crud off, then finish with ONR in my carport.

Lol you a funny guy yo. Basically I want my stinger to be a tank dd since I will be using to commute to and from work. Besides the squeaks and rattles that MAY come should I swap out brake pads and rotors sooner than later once getting the vehicle. I don’t mind spending a pretty penny since I plan to modify it as soon as I get it (of course after routine maintenance work fluids etc.) but to avoid some basic things that ppl have noticed wrong over time after having the car is that a good idea?

Again, I'm the Satisfied Kia poster boy: no issue with my OEM brakes whatsoever. At 49K miles I still have 8mm of pad: that was a reduction of c. half a millimeter in 4K miles since last oil change, when they said the pad thickness was 8-9mm. And no shuddering. I brake like a grandpa (like my dad taught me).

The q50 2016 q50 red sport I have is in black obsidian. While black cars look so good when they are clean and freshly washed in black by tomorrow it will have some type of dust, bug splatter, mud, etc. on it. Can’t win with them. And black cars better hide during pollen season.

“Break like a grandpa “ lol …. Well I’m going to be honest I like to drive pretty spiritedly and don’t let me see a scatpack or mustang gt 5.0 anywhere? Those are like a dime a dozen around my ways. I always played with either one in the q50 rs. And ok oem pads rock solid. I am buying used though so that is taken into consideration as well.

^^^I drive "spiritedly" as well. Acceleration is my toy. Launch control if I am in pole position and the speed limit is at least 45 MPH. And cutting curves till the tires start to hiss. I just don't see a point in standing on the brakes. Just coast toward that red light ferpetesakes, then gently come to a stop.

The OE pads/discs are fine until they're not, just know that any pulsing effect is likely NOT warped rotors but residual brake pad material. That's why most just swap brake pads. I did this, and immediately the little bit of shake was gone.

i changed my brake pads and then found out one of my rotors is warped then the other squeaked so I stopped caring. next time I change them ima replace pads and rotor

That happens, especially where it's hilly and rainy (long braking downhill + hit a puddle = warping commences), or hilly and very hot. We destroyed the OE brakes on the CX5 doing a couple trips through death valley during the summer. Both sides of the valley have large hills that can't be managed by engine braking alone. Ended up swapping powerstop performance rotors and pads, no issues since.

l’ll probably just swap all four for peace of mind. Pads and rotors. I’m all in on the stinger.
