the repair requires the roof liner and c pillar covers to be removed ..............they had a glass company remove the glass from the frame , installed a new one , reinstalled the glass then put the car back together ................they did a small amount of paint damage to one corner of the roof and scratched the aluminum trim on my drivers door , both will be fixed , replaced next week BUT .....................the creaking and ticking are gone !!! Fingers crossed this is a permanent fix !! I'll keep you posted .......

Great. You've been waiting for this a long time. That is drastic "surgery" to cure an ill. May you roll unlimited miles in quietude!

Glad to hear that solved it for you! I might have to take mine in and have one of the dealerships look at it. Mine squeaks a ton, even when the sunroof is open I think it's still squeaking but the sound of the air kinda masks it. I tried lubing up all the seals with gummi pflege and it still does it. Not sure how many people will read this (maybe I should start a poll...) but I'd be curious to see how many people DON'T have squeaks/creaks/rattles coming from the roof.

I'm waiting on my replacement frame - glad to see it's fixed the issue thus far.

Dealership lined up my doors and within the next few days the stores started creaking again.

Feb 18 build, no squeaks

Squeaks and rattles, mainly sunroof and hatch, outnumber paint complaints. If someone starts a "Noises Off" poll, make sure to include all the main areas: sunroof, ceiling (not sunroof related, apparently), hatch, one or more doors, dash, seat belt panel, rear thump, suspension, other (tell us).

Owner since Oct 18, 4000miles Car sunroof creaks open or closed & makes additional cracking, popping noises when open (even after Shin Etsu grease applied). Intermittent rattle, creak behind passenger side dash, occasional knock from inside driver door & creaking rear driver side door.

My repair was $6000 Cdn !!! There is no way that Kia is not aware that this is an issue , Kia Canada approved the repair once I was able to prove the problem to the Service Mgr ..................keep the pressure on ...............and I think the roof is the root cause of other sounds from the doors as well . The roof is integral to the structural integrity of the whole body , even my stereo sounds better !!

Thanks mate !! All seems good , As I mentioned earlier , I think the roof is the root cause of other noises too !

I think the new roof will help the doors , have you applied Shin Etsu grease to the door moldings yet ? I think it really helps ....grease.webp

Haven't done a thing myself. Getting the dealership to sort it all out. My Kia dealership has a Kia & Hyundai service centre on site.

When you push against the windows you can hear the creak and none of our other cars have this level of flexure so think it's also a housing/alignment problem like the sunroof.

So I put my GT through the paces today and .................................IT"S QUIET !! the noises are gone ......................!!! It changes everything for me now ! I'm not OCD but I like things that work properly and I hate squeeky cars , happy , happy , happy !!!

Ugghhh, I'm REALLY not looking forward to what I presume is going to be a battle with my local dealership.
A) I didn't buy the car from them. This may be an irrational fear, but I feel like service departments sometimes give subpar service if the vehicle wasn't purchased at their dealership. Hopefully I'm just being paranoid there.
B) Even though this seems like it's a fairly widespread issue, it would appear that Kia has not implemented any sort of SOP with regard to this issue. So on top of the service department potentially naturally being reluctant to help me (again, that may be an unsubstantiated fear), there's the issue of service departments not thinking it's a real issue because Kia hasn't said it's a real issue. And we all know how modern mechanics operate. If they don't have a service bulletin, or if it doesn't show as an error in the computer, then it must be fake news.

I hope this isn't a sign of how these next 3 years are going to go. I don't even have my new license plate yet and already I'm needing to plan a trip to service...

I really think you need to get KIA USA involved , I recorded the sounds and played it for the rep I was dealing with and was able to recreate the sounds with the dealer service mgr , it was a defect in my car , the difference in my car now is unbelievable ................good luck

westcoastGT, let us know if anything changes for the worst, hopefully not!

I noticed about a week ago that my roof started making stupid popping noises. I applied silicone lube to the sunroof and it seemed to be fixed, but now it's acting up again only about a week later. I doubt the lubricant has "washed off" in only 1 week. I guess I'll have to keep seeing if this is a thing...service is due in about 6 weeks. Onto the list this goes, for now.

its been perfect since it was replaced , I cant believe the difference , it tightened up the structural integrity of the whole cabin , and 17yr old son proved to me how much better the stereo sounds too !!
