Sweet the new Genesis vehicles at the car show in Phoenix... This car has a love it or hate it look. Interior is nice in their highest trim but there is definitely a reduction in rear seat legroom.

Not a bad vehicle outside of the Lexus style grille... Def on the short list of cars I'd like to own.

Meh, I think the Stinger has more external style & it looks like grandma left her patchwork quilt on the seats.

Something about that grill nose...kinda looks like a inflamed boil that's ready to spew.....right?:)

can you pay extra and get black nappa leather seats? Wash

Agreed. I like the quilted seats with the red stitching. The Stinger's exterior styling is superior, though, IMHO.

Agreed on the exterior. It's more Buick and less edgy. The standard leather is not stitched like this.

I like both cars in how they are done. In the early days, I wanted the Stinger to have better bolstered seats but on this long drive over the holidays they were pretty comfortable. Now, I wish they were deeper to hold you better when cornering hard, both front seats. That's where you feel a lot of the motions. I recall this as my brother took the car out and put it in Sport and was carving some back roads. The Genesis should be a bit better but my young days of hard suspensions are behind me and I like how the Stinger feels. Will wait to pass judgement until I drive one.

your seat bolsters are adjustable to give more support for cornering

Diablo, wow has it been a year already? I went to the Phx car show last year and wanted to see the G70 and Stinger. Genesis/Hyundai screwed that up by delaying the US market intro of the G70 by 6+ months. It was the leading contender for me but the Stinger won me over in it's absence.

PS had another one of "those"encounters today at the neighborhood Lowes. Just getting out of the car and a fellow shopper walks by and said he's never heard of a Stinger. Is that a Maserati? I explained to him what it was and he was really impressed.

Australia was supposed to get the G70 early this year, then delayed to later this year & to my knowledge no sign of it yet, so it may be early next year now, also a year delay.

Nothing about the outward looks of the G70 tickles my fancy. And I actively detest that grill arrangement; as noted, too much like a Lexus "hourglass" which I find very unattractive. G70 is more sporty in approach: will track more nimbly than a Stinger, so we are told. It is slightly more upscale in materials and finish, thus the few thousand dollars more per trim. But it isn't as practical so is not a gran turismo, which is one of the key concept and design attributes of the Stinger which sold me on the car.

Yeah, I know. Still not like the seats on my S60 Volvo R-Design or like the 30 way seats on the 535 which you could also adjust the leg bolsters which were on both front seats.

I like the size of the Stinger. The G70 is smaller and there is no way I’d get a car seat behind the drivers seat.

It’s a nice car otherwise.

Both delays are due to dealership and/or sales distribution issues.

For Australia, Hyundai is ponying up the cost of building the first Genesis boutiques.

Like for Canada, it's a direct-from-the-manufacturer sales distribution model w/ boutiques being the showcase for the brand/models.

Here are a couple of well done comparisons.

In the comments section, a few Stinger owners popped up in the Jalopnik G70 review.

Man...those Aussies...first they neuter the Commodore and now they delay the G70. :) Next thing you know they'll get rid of Tooheys Old and replace it with New. Madness, I say! :)

Cheers!

I think the G70 was a bit of a miss. For having the same engine as the GT, I can't justify paying more for that car when the Stinger exterior is a bit more pleasing. The extra rear legroom really was a huge factor for me too, seeing as I will eventually turn mine into a family / road trip car.

In the US Hyundai tried-and failed- to hang the G70 over the heads of the dealers to commit to Genesis stand alone buildings. The stated requirement was 150 new vehicle stock and a certain acreage and square feet of new building. Few dealers were willing to commit to that given the poor sales. Perhaps when they dome out with their SUV's in the next few years but not now.
Currently Hyundai has gone back to the drawing board to determine how to go forward with Genesis sales and dealerships.

Weird thing is I inquired about a g80 Sport and the dealers won’t budge on price. Asking for MSRP. Considering the crappy sales I was shocked. Figured I could negotiate near $10k off MSRP. I was wrong. I am thinking it won’t be any difference with the G70. So even though the price lines up with the Stinger, you can get a much better deal on a Stinger than you willing a G70

It's really not that much more.

Plus, the G70's interior is a good bit more luxurious (and has features the USDM Stinger is missing right now) and has more sophisticated suspension bits, along w/ more aluminum parts (to cut weight).

On top of that, for the price, the Genesis has all the service amenities (loaners, valet service, free maintenance, etc.) included, altho for certain buyers, it's something they wouldn't miss or don't want to pay for.

What the Stinger has is more room and a fastback body-style (and in my eyes) better sheetmetal.

That's not what happened.

Genesis USA had a plan for a 150 dealer strong Genesis network (which was too low, as many states, including South Carolina would be w/o a dealership).

But Hyundai dealerships revolted against that plan (some of the 150 planned dealerships would be allotted to dealer groups new to Genesis, so only around 120 Hyundai dealerships would be awarded a Genesis store).

A # of dealerships in various states sued Hyundai (on the basis of their state's franchise laws which prevent an automaker unfairly favoring one dealership over another) which forced Genesis to abandon the 150 dealership plan and open up the possibility of obtaining a Genesis franchise to every Hyundai dealer.

There were Hyundai dealerships which turned down over $4 million in compensation b/c they wanted a Genesis franchise.

On last count, according to Hyundai, there were around 400 dealerships interested in acquiring a Genesis store (way more than what Genesis wanted).

Needless to say, the whole thing has been a mess as Genesis US brass made numerous blunders.

But right now, there are about 60 dealerships that have been granted a Genesis franchise and are operating (selling 2019 models, including the G70).

The largest markets for Genesis (CA, TX and FL) however, had issues (due to litigation and other matters), but it seems that the franchise licensing for Genesis in those states are close to being or have been resolved; which means that sales can start once individual franchisees within those states obtain their licenses.

Was this for a 2018MY or a 2019MY G80 Sport?

Also, try different dealerships (even out-of-state) as many are willing to deal.

As for the G70, while the very first buyers (reportedly) purchased at MSRP, there have been those (since then) who have been able to get a few thousand under MSRP (including all the loyalty/competitor rebates) by widening their search.
