I stopped reading when I got to

Kia Australia declined comment on the report: "Kia Motors Australia has no intention of commenting on an international blog site."

Because who would believe what a random stranger on the internet posts on a blog, particularly after a potentially solid source declines to comment?

People have been generating a lot of clicks over the last couple of weeks just by making up stories about the Stinger. Once these rumor mill blog posts stop getting shared and passed off as news their click revenue will die out and the bloggers will move on to their next source of revenue. Hopefully that's sooner rather than later.

I don't disagree with your perspective and would'nt have posted this had it not been for the comments of my dealer owner this week , his sentiments were that the Kia Dealer network is not "aligned" with selling this type of car and that Genesis is a better fit for it . He appeared to be saying this from a Kia Canada perspective and not just his dealership .................cerainly there hasn't been much "dealer love" around this forum and I have all the badges and bruises from my interactions ..................

"The Korean report claims the jointly owned Hyundai-Kia corporation will instead double down on investment in the Hyundai version of the Kia Stinger, the Genesis G70."

 They admit a geometrical difference without expounding, because to do so would put a big red "X" through that quote. The G70 is not another version of the Stinger. It lacks the practicality and fastback lines of that wonderful hatchback design.

I agree that the stinger is the better looking sibling, but mechanically they're VERY similar. This seems plausible since KIA dealers as a whole are not at the level needed for a $50K car.

One can only hope they'd just slap a genesis badge on it rather than killing it entirely.

If that's the case Kia needs to get rid of/slap a Genesis badge on the K900, Cadenza, and Telluride as well. Those three are all either comparable to or nearly double the price of the Stinger.

This piece admitted the likelihood of six to eight years of the first/only gen Stinger. That's enough to guarantee parts and service for a long time; if the world is the same vis-à-vis private vehicles and travel in the future, of course.

I cross shopped the G70 with the Stinger but one of the big deal breakers that made me choose the Stinger over the G70 was the fastback design even though it was cheaper.

What Kia does w/ respect to the Stinger has little bearing on what Genesis does.

Genesis/Hyundai has no need for the K900, Cadenza or Telluride when they have the G90. Grandeur and Palisade.

One of the big issues for Kia is that the Stinger is on a bespoke platform (while same basic architecture as the G70, it's a diff. length w/ nothing else sharing it), unlike the K900 which shares its platform w/ the G90.

There have also been inklings that Genesis may do away w/ the G70 (if they don't, the next gen will have to increase its interior space), maybe for another small CUV.

If Kia does discontinue the Stinger, can see them replacing it w/ a sporty CUV.

Lmao, you completely missed my point. I wasn't making a serious suggestion. Re-read the two posts more carefully.

^ I got your point (knew you were being facetious); was clarifying things for others based on the false notion that the G70 is to be prioritized over the Stinger.

The Stinger is not a car that needs replacing with anything. It was a fresh retro project, special to those working to bring it to life. Another car, even a GT approach, will not take the Stinger and morph with it. The Stinger is as pure a car enthusiast's dream come true as we're ever likely to see from H/K. The idea behind a genuine Gran Turismo is unique in itself: in a world that is leaving sedans, to bring out a brand new one had to be a gamble, so, making it better than any GT for the price point was the goal. The size and configuration are pluses that no other model offers anywhere near the money.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

The K900 and Cadenza are dogs and should be put to pasture ..............The Telly sells itself and is not an enthusiasts vehicle , whereas the Stinger is , dealers just dont understand the car and the type of consumers it has attracted in the most part .

The Stinger is definitely not being marketed to it's potential and I don't think dealers actually know how to sell it properly. Heck, I knew more about the car than all the sales people that showed me the car. I've never even once seen an or heard an ad for it on TV or radio. Kia's marketing department are the real Stinger killer.

If Genesis is worried about Stinger sales cannibalizing G70 sales, they should throw in the new 3.5L with CVVD into the G70 and now you have a performance bump that justifies the price difference. This would make the G70 a better competitor against its targeted competitors the 3 series and C class. Hopefully sales for both increase and neither will be facing the axe. When i bought my 2018, i considered the G70. I liked the suspension better and it was faster and more buttoned down, im sure the lighter weight helps. But since i have 2 kids the G70 just was too cramped.

................they did try early and the results never changed , they are not a bank , they need to invest in what delivers ..............unfortunately This car has not .......I'm not a Hater , I've got the 1st Stinger delivered in NorthAmerica , the investment in this car has NOT delivered "economically" while their SUV line up is hitting it out of the park

I totally agree. I've been exploring a replacement for my 2010 TSX, and unless I go hybrid or electric, I want the Stinger. The "size and configuration" point is huge. The Stinger is actually smaller than the Accord and Mazda 6, which is a plus, but still has lots of space and offers AWD. And it's bigger than the G70, which drives wonderfully but doesn't have enough cargo capacity to be our only car. With the Stinger's larger size and different vibe, I think it should be able to coexist with the G70.

I have driven the 2.0T/AWD Stinger, and for whatever reason I felt at home driving it almost immediately. It reminds me of my late, beloved 2001 Saab 9-5 Aero, because it has a nice blend of performance and practicality, with a unique character. I just hope FCW and AEB become available on the T4 version for 2021, because I won't buy anything without the modern safety tech. Of course, fingers crossed for the 2.5T/8DCT drivetrain too. The current 2.0T is adequate for my purposes, but a little more punch would be nice...really nice.

Welcome! Great first post! Of course, you just said what I said, only taking one sentence to say it!

I think that all Stingers, regardless of the engine or optional features, have "the vibe". :)

I went as far as to threaten the kia dealer I would cross shop to the G70. Got me the global warranty package for the effort. Still haven't been to a Hyundai dealer to look at a G70.
