So I was driving to meet my parents at their country club for dinner yesterday and when I was parking two valet guys came flying around the parking lot in their golf cart. Apparently they had made a $1 bet on what type of car it was (maserati vs volvo :P). I already rebadged the whole car so I let them look inside and out for a bit before they gave up. I have to say that is one of my favorite parts of the stinger ownership process is telling people it's a Kia. The other funny part is those guys see Bentleys, Maseratis, Rolls and more every day but they were jazzed about seeing a Kia. Just solidifies another reason why I like this car so much, and thought I'd share.

Indeed. I was washing the car a couple of months ago and a guy in a mustang stopped and asked how did I like my Jaguar.
I then smiled and politely corrected him by saying it is a Kia and I love it. :D

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
The other funny part is those guys see Bentleys,
I just read the brief review on the Bentley convertible in Autoweek. The one detail that sticks with me is the observation that in stop and go traffic, the trans starts to roll with a lurch (occasionally). Well, blow me down, sounds like a Kia Stinger, "occasionally". But for well over Two Hundred Thousand Grand!? There is something whacked about our corner of the universe: that this much money (even what we pay) should be expected for a CAR; and then not have it perfect. "Choice"! (well, there is this one thing...)

On a recent 300 mile trip to Hilton Head from NC, we were asked no less than 4 times.....”what is it?” I also like the exclusivity, but it also goes to show what a piss poor marketing job Kia has done.

Also just read that BMW will be charging a $300 fee for Apple car play. The badge snobs can take it I guess.

I just pointed out on another thread that, after months of no comments, mine is now getting compliments again, but now every commenter knows it's a Kia, and not because I have original badges. People know the car, are excited about it, and tell me they hope to own one. Of course, this is probably because average incomes in my neighborhood mean people are of necessity less snobbish about non-luxury brands (except around the local hospital, where Tesla S models graze in herds).

Is the VW group DSG gearbox being used in Bentleys? That'd explain the lurch in stop-start traffic, the VW group DSG gearbox is renowned for it.

This is the Continental GT. And the review says it has a "new dual clutch transmission". So "new" probably means not a borrowed VW trans?

VW Group owns Bentley. While it's possibly new for a Bentley to use it, the transmission is almost certainly not new. One of the things that big automaker groups do is rationalise components across marques - I'd lay money that if it's not the exact same DSG (VW's term for a dual-clutch transmission) as one used in VW/Audi/Skoda/etc cars, it's a derivative of it.

Don't forget Lamborghini, also owned by VW group. They use the same DSG setup in their stuff too. I drove a DSG in my CC for 7 years. Never experienced a lurch in stop and go traffic. The earlier tiptronic was a pile of garbage, but the DSG was pretty solid.

Love this. I also like the double takes as people drive past you on the road. The best!

Actually I would get offended if they confuse my car (Stinger GT2) with a Jaguar (freaking unreliable and overpriced), Volvo (cars for old people and bland looking cars in general), Maserati (talking about horrible old school interior and terribly unreliable and overpriced).

What? You don't like 2005 TomTom-looking GPS graphics sitting above a phone keypad on your center console in a 100k+ Italian car?!

My wife and I are obviously biased, but we came out of a store one day not long ago and a woman in a black Maserati Quatroporte was parked next to us and checking out the car. She did an obvious sniff and nose turn-up when she saw the Kia badge, but I think she was jelly that our car was sexier than hers. it might be a slugfest between a Gran Turismo and a Stinger on looks, they're both pretty hot, but not that 4 port land barge she was so proud of.

Most people I've seen act like that in Maseratis bought them for like 35-45k..the same as a new GT generally, trying to flex in an old "exotic". I've yet to meet a new Maserati owner that acted pretentious, far from it in fact.
