I'm thinking of installing an oil catch can. ADD W1 V3. I live in northern Alberta, Canada. This weekend the temp. is going to drop down to the -30 to -40C.
My question is, is there a way to prevent the hoses/can from freezing?
I think if the hose with the condensed water/oil vapor froze, the catch can would no longer work properly, maybe even with catastrophic results.
Thanks

The hose is not full, lol. You'll be fine. Relax

True, it's not full. However, is it not possible that through continual freezing during the fridged drive down hiways the hose could plug up?

If you have concerns, you could easily put insulation like this over your hoses;

Hose insulation.webp

You could also insulate the catch can ( in multiple ways ).

This might work. Where is this product sold?
Ideas for insulating the can would be appreciated.
Thanks

Go to: https://www.summitracing.com/

and search "heat sleeves" then choose what you need.

Hint. Go slightly larger than a direct fit for ease of installation.

As for insulating the catch can.....

Grab a couple of Stubby Holders and get creative IMO.

I'm sure they'll do the trick.

I had to Google Aussie stubby holder. Great idea.
Summit Racing™ heat sleeving easily covers wires, cables, and lines to protect them from damaging radiant heat up to 1,500 degrees F. The lightweight sleeves are fireproof and oil-resistant
Interesting, protection from heat. Should be great for insulating against the cold.
Thanks AusStinger!!

You're thinking about this all wrong. The hose never fills up, it's only the slightest bit of vapor. Even if it did freeze, you'd still have tons of room inside the hose for the vapor to move through. If this was a problem, it would be a problem with the stock hose that goes from the head to the intake, as it routes the same vapors, just not through a can that catches it. Seriously, it's not a problem.

Ya, that makes sense. Over thinking it. Just bad things happen when temperatures reach extremes.

If you do go ahead with this insulation, I'd suggest that the stubby holder solution for the catch can is only on when the temps are cold.

Probably remove it when temps warm up or insulate the can with a more resilient / suitable option.

For sure. Thanks everyone for your input.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

I have the same can. You will need to empty the can weekly.

Thanks man! I think that's the key. Wish I had a heated garage to do that. Here in Alberta, there was a 3 week spell that was -30 C or colder.

Did you ever think about getting a block heater?

Since the can comes with a dip stick it's easy to check the level.

A block heater is for the motor. I was thinking about cruising down the hiways when it's -30C. Hoses freezing to the catch can.

Never happen with the heat that our engine gives off.

When you order your Catch Can order a couple extra Of Rings as spares.
