Front skid plate

Too late for me, my front panel dropped down in a V shape & caught on debris & tore loose! Its a nightmare! I refuse to turn in an insurance claim because the panel should’nt have been made out of cardboard, shouldnt have come loose & frankly i shouldnt be dealing with this issue!
I hope Kia makes this issue a priority for all of us and creates a new replacement panel out of some material that is a lot more sturdy - similar to what the "Germans" are using - and make it a total recall.
The repercussions of what happened to Todd (see above) are frightening - to think of this happening at "Autobahn" speeds. I shudder to think.

I uploaded pics of the aftermath. The front panel was bent completely back underneath my car, I had to cut it loose bit by bit with solid steel garage sheers. Some of it remains, the rest is in a pile ready to take to the dealer. There are two broken plastic pieces, one mounted by the inter cooler & another in the nose assembly. Although I have scratches, I think the actual bumper survived.

Damn, that looks scary... Initially I thought to not install aluminum replacement for that, but now I'm convinced. Part number is R4000J5200 (at least here).

But I'm not sure that will solve original issue described here, because, as you see from above, it has enough mounting points, i.e. that's not that loosen part?

Wait, is this a Kia PN...same "part" just made from Aluminum?

I did a search on the PN you posted but its all in Russian so i cannot make heads nor tails of it.

I may have to crawl under mine and add some additional plastic rivets or something to keep this from sagging anywhere

Damn, sorry man. Keep us posted on what Kia says...Did the front edge (left to right) sag down also and that is what hit debris. Or did it sag along the longitudinal (front to rear) and that caught the debris. Without the front edge coming down i am having trouble understanding how it could have folded backwards.

In general, i am not happy with the quality of the underside of the car. Hopefully this can be addressed.

Maybe, maybe .... I also know another number, similar, R4000J5100 -- that's the same sump/engine protector but from steel.

I dunno original plastic part number and I'm not sure if that part above (but plastic) is the part all that talk about in this thread (need to confirm). Does anybody have good photo/schematics of the Stinger's bottom?

Also, there's extended set exists which additionally protects gearbox:

Got my new one installed last night. I'll have to keep an eye on it. Still not sure what happened in the first place.

Here you go: It would appear, the panel part no. is 29111C.

And let there be no mistake: these are by any means NO skid panels! They are stricly to regulate airflow under the car....

I can imagine, if you were to back-up in snow country, you may run into problems - and not even noticing it - other than you magically cleared your driveway... :)

Sorry, did dealer replace or you did?

Ok, just got good photos of aluminium protection installed and looks as it definitely replacement for that part so could be a good solution.

Interesting things that installation partially overlaps front piece looks as.

What’s the part number for the aluminium version ?

Hey, thanks for posting that - appears to be a good solution, and I can see there is a KIA part sticker on it. Unfortunately, like the previous poster I can only pull up Russian pages for it, so not sure it's been made available elsewhere. The thickness is shown as 4mm, so that's a pretty decent gauge of plate. Are there any other part numbers on it beside R4000J5200?

Only numbers I know are R4000J5200 and R4000J5200P, sorry. Can't check exact labels there, photos are from another guy. Maybe available only here because metal engine protection is a kind of "must have" fetish here in Russia :D

Understood - at least the part numbers give something to start with. I'll check with the dealer's parts guy next time I'm by there and see if he can find anything out about it and if there are any other methods to get it. We've got our share of bad roads as well ... :)

Спасибо!

Good solution. However, is it me or the aluminum shield has less coverage than the factory one? (could be the picture). Also while being a good solution it doesn't make changing oil an easier task, if anything you now have to watch your head when removing it so it doesn't hurt you.
I have been in talks with the guys at Zspeed performance to work on a solution for the Stinger. So far they are open to the idea, and I have sent them pictures of both 4cyl and 6cyl shields to give them a preliminary idea on what to expect. I will be making a post to gather interest and see how many potential buyers there will be for a product like this, and also we may need to get two Stinger owners for fitment tests, a 6cyl and a 4cyl.

If you dont know about Zspeed Performance, I am leaving the link below to their website. They are well known in the Nissan/Infiniti community and they have created good quality stuff over the years.

appears to be a good solution

Reality check:
I provided the diagram and original parts numbers above. But I did not mention that I had also asked the parts man at the dealership what the front panel would cost.
He looked it up and told me $400.00. Thank you very much......THAT was not expected.

I doubt that aluminum panels would come at a lesser price. And are they anodized or powder coated? If not, how will they stand up to road salt in snow country?

A solution for the handy ones amongst us may be fiberglassing the existing panels. Coat both sides with epoxy such as WEST System, put a layer of woven glass matting first on one side, then on the other. Anybody who has done "glass work" before knows what I am talking about.
You would need a flat surface where you can weigh down (or screw) the panel to keep it flat while working on it. The surface should be covered with 6 or 8 mil plastic sheeting, for easy release.
Stiffeners and ports are also easily incorporated. The front port is already there, which can be duplicated in the second panel, just under the oil plug.
An oil drain valve will obliviate the use of tools and direct the oil stream straight down. One would not need to take any panel off for oil changes.

For my part, I will seriously look at the possibility of glassing these panels. :)
