First look: Kia Stinger D-AWD

Interesting. Maybe for the 2020 model? I assume the 2019 models are already set.
Anyone know if the current setup changes the torques split to 85/15 with the traction control off and 93/7 with the stability control off?
If someone wanted to upgrade bad enough I wonder if they could. LSD, ECU & TCU upgrades from the new model...

This is the one I want. I wish there were more details, like a release date.

That may come to market for the Koreans by next year, they are already in their 2nd year with their Stinger and we are just getting ours.

Sick (in the old world sense of the original definition). Anyone who wants a Stinger so they can drift it can take their perversion to the high plains. :poop:

I wonder if the LSD and programming for our older models will be available aftermarket by KIA with warranty in place.

I would pay almost any reasonable amount for this if it was going to be available. I read that article with much sadness. I feel this is the only thing that I can't get to make the car perfect. Then it would truly be a half price M5 (with the right mods).

From reading the article I feel this was an organized press event but that is the only piece I can find written about the new AWD system.

I see a stinger in my future come next year, it would be nice to see if the 12 inch infotainment screen and digital dash from the k900/telluride might also make its way into future stingers. Maybe I am asking for too much though.

Wonder if they'll allow the 2018 stinger owners to do upgrades to their cars?

I was rushing over here to share this article but you beat me to it. I doubt there will be any upgrade path to this for 18s or even 19s. This will be out for the 2020 model at the earliest, if it makes it to market at all. That aside, this sounds awesome and would make a nice upgrade from my premium in a couple years.

I already got the GT2. I don't see any reason to upgrade anytime soon. I really like mine! Oh well, guess I'll have to be satisfied with what I got. ;)

Very cool. Glad to see they are happy with the sales of the Stinger in the US and that we can expect even sharper Stingers down the road!

"Drift 7:93 [Static torque split (F:R)] Nearly full rear-drive with minimal stability control allows controlled slides, will not upshift even at the rev limiter"

"In most modes, it'll automatically knock up to the next gear when you reach the redline, but Drift mode will just bounce off the rev limiter, holding the high engine speeds needed to keep the rear wheels lit up."

That's pretty cool, keep the current gear that YOU want yet not go past the red line. The "nanny" take-control shifter is gone.

I thought that Sport currently sends 80% to the rear wheels.

So, short of "drifting", the RWD function will be 100% on Sport Plus?

A dead zero start dead ahead will still be carrying c. 200 lbs of added weight. Unless the front wheels are contributing their fair share, I don't see how turning an AWD into a RWD that weighs 200 lbs more is going to compete with a lighter, true RWD.

If they keep this kind of thing up, I could see selling my MY18 for a 2021, or even a 2020.

It won't. That's not the point. Those of us that prefer AWD might enjoy being able to direct more power to the rear wheels at times.
