FAQ: Vibration under braking: warped rotors? NO!

I had a 2016 IS350 F Sport and I would say it had significantly better brake feel and performance than the Stinger. I felt much more confident with the Lexus than with the Stinger, particularly when braking from high speeds. I haven’t had the brake shudder issue yet (I’m on the stock pads for now), but I’m considering new pads already just to get the performance level where it should be for a car like this.
Yeah I'd say the initial bite is lacking with the stock brembo in the Stinger. Even at crawl speeds while reversing I'm surprised at how much peddle pressure is required to stop. But in saying that once the peddle is passed a certain point the brakes grab pretty hard. Poor modulation.

Hi guys. Just wanted to let you now I sent my 2020 GT to the dealer as I was getting brake shudder. Car only travelled 500km.
Dealer called to advised they’re changing all four rotors...

Yep same here, replacing all four of mine under warranty next week. Bought Hawk 5.0 HPS pads for the front from KharTunerz, hopefully fixes my issue. A lot of you have left the rear pads alone with no issue correct?

Hi mate. Are you replacing the pads yourself or getting the dealer to do it?

Just wondering if I should do the same thing...

I'll ask them, since they have to remove the caliper anyway and it takes all of five minutes to swap pads.

If they try to charge me I'll do it myself. You should 100% do the same thing, this issue will persist otherwise.

They want 1000 CAD for new pads installed which is an absolute joke. It was 220 CAD for high end pads, and honestly if you want similar to stock performance go with stoptech or something that's about 250 for all wheels.

From what I understand it's really only an issue on the front, so at least upgrade the pads on the front and you can leave the rears alone.

Thanks for the reply. Those hawk pads look good! My only issue is that it may take an awe fully long time to get to me in Perth, Australia.

Any Aussies on here who can recommend a good set of pads available locally?

Sorry if it's been asked already, yes i read the faq at least but not the 35 pages since that.

Other than the rebedding process described, is it possible to sand paper the deposits away maybe? I've got some EBC yellow stuff racing brake pads that caused shudder almost straight away after putting them on,then unusable once everything got hot after a few laps at a track day. I'd like to give them one more shot before I give up on them so maybe sand paper the rotors and pads and try bedding again?

Are some pads just never going to work and will give deposits /shudder no matter what?

Thanks.

Got these guys in 24 hours from KharTunerz, pretty impressed with how fast it got here. I'll be putting them on when they do the rotors sometime this or next week.

If those are the Hawk HPS 5.0 front brake pads I installed them last week and since then I haven’t felt any shaking when braking. Received in 24 hours as well. Can’t beat that for shipping.

Was curious if anyone else had them, do you notice better braking in general? Noisy?

My only concern is dust.

Did you "bed in" the new pads?

Yes, followed directions on the back to "bed" pads.

Moderate braking from 30-35, without coming to a stop (6-10 times)
Firm braking from 40-45, without coming to a stop (2-3 times)
Drive for 15 mins to cool brakes

I've only driven on them for a few days but braking feels about the same as OEM. Don't hear any noise. Haven't checked for dust. They include grease for greasing the back of the pads to cut down on noise.

Good! You can't overdo "bedding in." Even though I have done so on several vehicles, I still allow time while rolling to let the system cool after heavy braking.

So I've got just over 13k miles on my 2018, I had been experiencing a little bit of vibration under braking which is what I assumed people were describing when they talked about the brake issue. Well, I took my Stinger on its longest road trip yet to Colorado Springs from Salt Lake, there are a lot of elevation changes on the drive. I'm not one that will ride my brakes on hills, unfortunately the traffic in front of me was and that must have caused build up on the pads. At one point the brake judder got so violent that I thought I was going to have to stop to make sure everything was okay. But almost as soon as it started I had to slam on the brakes to avoid an idiot in front of me that almost wrecked, after that the judder pretty much disappeared. It was certainly an interesting experience, I didn't expect it to be that violent of a shake.

My 2018 GT2 needed the rotors redone at 18000 miles and now at 28000 they need to be done again.
I'm not happy as I'm trying to get Kia to redo at no charge.
I'm also at end of my 3 year lease and thinking about leasing a new 2021 GT2..any thoughts out there?

guys same pads used on the G70 and much cheaper from Genesis

The Hawk hps 5.0 definitely throw off a lot of dust on track days.

After coming home and cleaning the wheels off the front wheels are very visibly more dusty than my ebc yellow rears.

So do you just need to replace the front pads? Also, which ones do I use? I've read Girodisc magic pads are the ones to go with compared to stoptech, centric posiquiet, Hawk, and Dba. Interestingly, I can't find the Girodisc magic pads on their website but can on the Khartunerz website. Where are they at the Girodisc site?

Fellas, I thought we all bought a Kia because we are wise with our money and like value and performance per dollar.....stop spending like it's a c6 z06 track monster.

$77 a piece for centric blanks...better than oem. ( PN : centric 120.50042)

$81 for some of the best brake pads I've used period. ( Better than stoptech and ebc)

I run these on my 400hp 240sx also. Wonderful bite, can handle spirited canyon runs without fade...and best of all they have the counterweights like oem pads.

$250 for quality pads and rotors.....you're welcome.
