Factory Oil Level Overfilled

I recently performed my first oil change on the GT2 at 1,000 miles. Full drain and filter change resulted in ~7.2 quarts draining out. This was the factory oil level. I replaced exactly this amount, especially since it lines up with the owners manual, expecting it to put me right on full. However, this put me well over full on the red dipstick portion. Almost to the wire portion. I used a suction line to remove 0.9 quarts which brought me right to the full mark with the oil warmed up and engine sitting for 5 minutes after shutting off. Has anyone experienced this also? Seems as though I was driving around for a while with almost a quart extra oil. I hadn't experienced any weird sounds or bubbles on the dipstick in the first 1,000 miles though.

You simply can’t drain all of the oil during an oil change, there’s oil coolers and other hiding spots.

I’ll add 6 or so, run it for a minute, top off, and then check the next day. I filled it too high the first time as well.

Future oil changes I'll check before the full refill amount. Interesting that measuring the drained amount and refilling with the same volume put me above the full. Factory fill must have also been high. Never had a reason to check on a new car.

Could be, I didn’t consider that as a possibility. I simply added too much according the published volume. I never measured.

When I do oil and filter change I let it drain for quite awhile, mine takes almost exactly 7 liters (6.5 qts)
I dump the first jug and then slowly fill the rest real slow, I rarely have to add any more after a start and ramp removal.

My oil is always above the full mark. It doesn't alarm me. I think that the dipstick "is more like a guideline, really", than an exact measuring tool. I figure the dealership knows how to change oil. Now, if you had evidence of a crap dealership that would alter that opinion. But mine has always been very professional and confidence inspiring.

Interesting to hear since the manual says a drain and filter is 7.3 quarts. My refill after removal of some puts me right at 6.5 qts as well. Full system oil volume is over 8 quarts. As I measured the drained amount, 7.2 qts, looks like the dipstick may stick too far in. May slightly overfill in the future, say 6.8 qts. That should put me on the safe side considering the conflicting info.

I always fill about 0.2 Liters less than what the manual states because it's way easier to add then to have to extract. You also don't have to be on the full mark. I usually aim for the half-way point between add and full and I haven't noticed this car using any oil so topping it right up isn't worth it.

From what I've overheard from my service department at our store, depending on the vehicle, sometimes he actually does it on purpose. That seems odd to me, you don't want the crank slapping. I've heard him explain it but its hard to hear from my office heh. So please, take it with a grain of salt! Follow the manual heh
