Two weeks ago my brother came to visit and in one occasion he was behind me in the highway, so he noticed the third brake light only lasted about 3 seconds when the bake pedal was pressed, then it will turn off automatically. The dealer said it was a fuse box problem covered under warranty. So basically I had that problem and didn't notice it for about a month, don't make my mistake, go and check your lights.

Have you found any other factory defects that other owners should check?

Is your car a GT or a GT line?

GT Line, I first saw it in a car show in my city, they said there were like only 2 in the state and you normaly need to make an order to get yours, but this was alredy here so no need to do that. I was aiming for an Accord V6, so the gt line was fine to me.

What's a "GT line"?
In México the stinger is sold in only 3 packages:

EX: The base model 2.0
GT line: Still the 2.0 engine plus sunroof, the chrome, the nice headlights, "D" steering wheel, heated seats, parking sensors (rear only), aluminum pedals, etc.
GT: The V6 with everything except navigation and ambient lights.

All the models sold in México are RWD only.

What's a "GT line"?

In New Zealand, it is the middle of three models and has everything the top spec model ('GT Sport') has except the 3.3TT, LSD, Brembo Brakes, Electric Tilt and Telescope Variable Ratio Steering, Sunroof, Nappa Leather, Premium Audio, different 19" Mags, and 105Kg less weight, for a price difference of NZ$10,000 (~US$7,100).

the v6 is an additional 105kg? That seems like quite a lot of bulk for a six cylinder engine (and the additional equipment) !

Not being familiar with such things, I took it at face value from Kia's NZ website. Looking at the new model Australian Camry, the difference between the V6 and I4 is listed as 70Kg. Honda's NZ 9th Gen Accord NT comes in at 88Kg between the V6 and I4 models, which apart from the engines, are near identically spec'd.

Well, I just can´t fathom where all the weight goes! I´d understand 30 or 50kg, but 105 seems excessive considering it´s only larger diameter discs, larger calipers, two more cylinders and another turbo, and an LSD... . Do they quote the weight with or without fluids? It might make a big impact.!

Weights are quoted as 'Tare' or 'Curb', so no idea about fluids. As for the Stinger, assuming the Camry and Accord V6 & I4 differences account mainly for the difference in engine size, then the additional margin on the Kia must be due to ancillary equipment and accessories. So ok, brakes I wouldn't expect to show much difference, but what would the LSD, extra turbo, extra intake, steering electrics, power-sunroof, extra 6 speakers likely come in at?

I´d believe the ancillaries could take 30kgs. But the other 75? Perhaps it has a much larger intercooler than the i4...

Curb weight includes fluids. I doubt tare weight does.
According to a PDF it looks like the 3.3 is exactly 50kg heavier than the 2.0. based on the PDF I am assuming this is sans turbos, fmic, etc..

Really splitting hairs..... Boring. It weighs what it weighs.

Maybe to you, but myself not being car-mechanically minded, I'm interested to know where the difference is accounted for the joy of learning. It will make no difference at all to my purchase decision since anyone buying a TTV6 Stinger isn't buying principally for fuel economy... I can buy an eGolf or Leaf or something if I want to save the planet!

Wow, even Mexico got better options than us.

its a different market I suppose... I can´t quite fathom why the Stinger is so expensive in the US... it has little to do with taxes, as we have a car tax worth 10%(ISAN) and a VAT worth 18% (IVA) that apply to the car... what little they save in dealer costs here (as it is cheaper to work here) the taxes make it right back up! You also have an FTA with South Korea and we don´t, so in theory the car should be cheaper over there!

Yeah, lol. Kia really shot themselves in the kneecap with their decision-making. I would have likely bought a GT Line, but since that doesn't exist here, I'll be happily stepping into a 2018 GTI.

I'm getting my GT tomorrow, I will surely check for the problem
