Hi everyone,

Sorry if this has already been covered, but I am new here and couldn't find a search option for the forum.

I recently purchased a 2021 GT1 — great car, but it came with a Borla catback exhaust, and it's just too loud for me. Specifically, the drone in the 1200–2200 RPM range at partial throttle is unbearable for me. It sounds great at higher RPMs, but for daily driving, it's miserable.

For context, I previously had a V8 Mustang with an offroad X-pipe and Magnaflow catback, and even that was much quieter than the Borla setup on my Stinger. I used a dB meter, and the sound peaked at 95 dB in the back seat—definitely too loud for the interior of the car! To me it sounds like an old tractor inside and I feel like a boy-racer.

I've been researching options to reduce the noise and have tried sound-deadening material, but with zero success. Here are the potential solutions I've considered so far:
  1. Adding resonators – A pair of resonators would cost about $250, plus the expense of having them welded in.
  2. Replacing the entire catback system – The MBRP Pro catback with resonators has been recommended as a quieter option, but it's pricey at $1,300.
Another potential fix I've read about is adding exhaust tips to extend the pipes further out from under the car. Supposedly, this can make a noticeable difference to the sound inside the cabin. It seems like an easy and more affordable option, but I can't find much information on good, budget-friendly tips (not the $1,000 Borla tips).

I found some Glossy Carbon Akrapovic exhaust tips on eBay that look nice. Has anyone tried these? Alternatively, has anyone purchased tips from Summit or Jegs? They have affordable options in the $30–$60 range, like Vibrant Performance, Go Rhino, or Borla Intercooled. The only complication is that the Borla has a small 2.25" pipe instead of the more common 2.5".

Any advice, tips, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I am not a huge fan of slapping on resonators and taking away the sound and tone of any catback to be honest.

I would definitely do the exhaust tips first as a cheaper solution. You'll be surprised how much more tolerable the interior sound becomes on these cars with tips extending beyond the bumper. The mbrp isnt free of drone either but exhaust tips help the sound escape outside of the rear bumper instead of bouncing back into the rear hatch area.

The ones I use are these nice oval ones from ebay:

They are quality and don't fade. Look really pretty too from the back. They work great with my borla active which has valves (2022+ stingers have valves) and definitely help make cabin quieter. I also have the ark downpipes which make the catback far louder, deeper and more aggressive so you bet ya I rely on these tips to help get the cabin quieter. I have a 2023 stinger so i use the 4.5 inch oulet that fills the gap pretty well. I think for the pre 2022 stingers it might be a tight fit or not fit since the oem ring size is smaller.

Yeah, I am concerned to spend a bunch of money on a new catback only to be right back where I am.

Those are the ones I found on ebay. Are those weld on? What inlet diameter did you go with? Does the 2022+ still use the 2.25" tubing?

On eBay, there are dozens of sellers of the Akrapovic brand exhaust tips. Anyone with issue ordering them, since they all seem to come from China. Anyone have the clamp on style? Thanks

They are clamp on style. Can be welded on as well if needed. I went with 2.25 inlet for borla and 4.5 outlet. The 2022+ have bigger about 5 inch oem exhaust rings for the outlet. Mbrp is 2.5 inlet. They just take a while to arrive like a good 2-3 weeks.

I found a very good thread on Borla exhaust and adding tips on this forum. The thread title is "Borla Exhaust with Akrapovic Tips" (I am too new to post links).

Am I missing something about searching this forum site? Is there not a search option?

That's good.

There is a search but recently any sort of adblocking disables search. I even disabled any sort of adblocking and it still doesn't allow to search. So much for a functioning forum. Search is handy.

Yeah, disabled my ad blocker and now I can see it in the top right of the page. Thanks for that. Without a blocker, this site has a lot of ads.

Anyone know if the Akrapovic 95mmx115mm (3.75"x4.53") fits a 2021? The stock ones fake ones are 3.25"x4.25". There is a smaller 75mmx105mm (2.95"x4.13") that will fit, just curious if the larger size fits.

Checking back in on this. Do you guys run tips and which ones and size do you run? Any pics?

How long have you had these on the road? I've got a pair of chinese knock-off Akrapovic tips the Akrapovic name was half worn off in less than a year/10,000 miles. My car is garage kept and rarely sits in the sun.

I've had them for like maybe a year. No issues. My car is garage kept too.
