I have a 2022 model. I noticed that the active sound always goes back to "off" setting.

I tried to trace when it resets and it appears to happen if you switch user profiles and come back to your profile.

Can anybody confirm this happens to them as well??

Mine does that, only it keeps switching to the default setting, so I gave up trying to turn it off.

Can anyone explain what the active exhaust sound even is?
I can't tell anything no matter what I set it to

Supposedly one of two things: either the actual engine noise is piped in over the sound system, or there is a recorded engine sound that comes over the sound system. Either way, I cannot tell any difference in the settings either. The MY18 predates the OFF option: all I can do is minimize. From early on, I simply minimized and ignored it.

It is the fake engine noise the car synthesizes through the stereo system. I'd just as soon turn it off and keep it off so s/n level of music is improved. It's subtle but noticeable. The opening of the secondary exhaust tip in sport mode is more noticeable. While I'd prefer it retain the off setting, I've come to accept it, and am grateful it isn't as offensive and fake-sounding as some other makes' piped-in exhaust sound. IMHO the only one that did it right was Subaru with the STI, piping in actual engine sounds through the firewall but they stopped doing that with MY '18 or '19. At least the Stinger's sound like the car would likely actually sound if it hadn't been insulated and sound deadened so well; some makes (Ford) sound downright fake.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

yep, I had a 16 STI before my 22 stinger and that feature made the turbo sounds way better. When you'd be boosting hard and shift you'd hear the recirc valve functioning, plus you could hear the turbo as well.
But at the same time if you were just cruising in that car the road noise and comfort level were WAY worse than the stinger. So it wasn't all good.
I'm waiting for an aftermarket valved exhaust for this thing because the engine needs to sound much better than it does.
