I was quoted $170 by a body shop to have the M&S Type G spoiler painted gloss black with clear coat. Does that sound about right? Can anyone share what they were quoted?

I'm considering buying from ImportShark because the price seems good (I'm aware of the complaints people have with this vendor, but they did send me a painted emblem), but I'm thinking it may be worth it to pay $50 more to have a body shop paint it because the paint work will be guaranteed for life. I just want to make sure that I'm being quoted a reasonable price.

I had my Type G spoiler painted gloss black by a local and reputable body shop for $160. I didn't shop around too much so I thought it was a bit expensive. However, it came out perfectly and I'm very happy with it.

Does that price include fitting?

That was just for the paint job. Installation is pretty simple. There are videos on Youtube that will help before you install it yourself. All you need is some 3M automotive double-sided tape from Amazon or your local hardware store.

$170 seems pricey for what it is, but i would think its fair. Just paint it yourself :D or wrap it for like $50

That’s ok $170 seems reasonable to me, I paid approx. AU$275 for painting & fitting of my M&S S Type by my smash repairer.
IMHO I’d go with your local body shop, they are going to be around if you have any issues in the future.

I have ordered the type S spoiler, (matte black for now) how do you like ? Do you mind posting a picture?

Damn... it looks SO good !! Cannot wait for mine.
I am not sure if I will keep the matte black or do the Thunder Grey ( I have also ordered the MS rear diffuser)
Before I had it painted gloss black, the original matte was okay...to me, the color was too dull and I wanted the spoiler to at least match the glossy rear diffuser. Tough decision though! As thunder grey would look great on your car, too.

Sharp! In thinking about putting tinted film over that portion of my tail lights but was concerned about visibility when reversing at night. Is it a major issue ?
Surprisingly, the visibility isn't too much different compared to no tint on the rear lamps. My rear windows are rather dark, so for me, that is more of an issue when I reverse, so I end up rolling my windows down when I reverse to help with visibility. The light that comes through the rear lamps is bright enough, I think, with the tint on it. Even the amber turn signals shine through it very well. At the very least, you can apply it and remove it if you feel that it's too dark. It's just a tinted sticker that can be removed...but it looks high quality and very sharp up close.

Where did you purchase yours? Did you get the full squeegy packet or just the film?

I ordered just the vinyl film from Premium Auto Styling for $19 + shipping. Their website says you'll need to use soapy water when applying it to the taillights. I didn't use any of that and just carefully placed the vinyl sticker on the lights and slowly used my drivers license/credit card to smooth out the vinyl and push out any air bubbles.

I’m really happy with it, it’s been on since June 2018 & I still love the look, most who don’t know the car think it’s OE.

SMASH REPAIRER! Still gets me every time.

So I got my spoiler back from the body shop today and there are a few small bubbles, which caught me off guard. This shop repainted/clearcoated my front bumper after a minor collision and it turned out fine. Why would there be air bubbles in such a simple paint job on a spoiler? Did anyone else have bubbles in their paint when getting their spoiler painted gloss black?

Would like to see a pic of the bubbles that you're referring to but it sounds to me like they are pretty noticeable. I did not have any bubbling issues on mine. The spoiler was extremely smooth all around and spot free. You should definitely have them re-do it.

Here are the pictures. There are a maybe 4 or 5 of the bigger ones and about the same amount of smaller ones. The pictures show the larger bubbles (a closeup and one taken further away).
