Engine characteristics that contribute to exhaust note...

Ya, it's probably my least favorite aspect of the Stinger.

Even a bone stock m340 sounds significantly better than our modded exhausts :( so it's not a v6 tt issue necessarily...

Stock BMW M340i exhaust clip
back then the 540 was a NA V8, not a TTV6. I had two of them. 6 speed manuals both. I miss them too, but the 545 6 speed that replaced the last 540 was even better. I had a wicked custom exhaust on the first 540 that people would pull up and ask me what brand it was because it sounded so good.

i6 engines inherently sound better than v6. the audi s5 with the 3.0 tt would be a better exhaust note comparison.. maybe a little better than the stinger but not much to me at least it does give more gurgles though.. ..

yea, we had the e39 540iT v8 with cat back straight pipes... such fun.

argh, ya I forgot the b58 is a straight 6; that explains that then...

Ehh...I don't think the stinger is that bad... It's not a deep throaty pushrod V8 growl, but it's also not a 1997 Honda Civic DX with a fartpipe exhaust that makes you wonder, "Does it cut grass, too?"

The Stinger sounds pretty good 1500 rpm and up with the MBRP. Personally I think the MBRP needs a little more cleanup at cold idle and lower rpm; i've entertained installing some resonators in line to see if it'll civilize it a little without killing the sound too much. Even just resonated tips might do the job, just haven't gotten around to spending another $120 on a second set of exhaust tips.

I want to hear the Johnny Tig 4" single exhaust in person. OR, a setup with the Tork oval mid-pipe.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Also Johnny Tig even tested the single to prove it makes more power!! And I’ve heard it sounds like a GTR

Nice. Just a bit pricy at $2500 plus freight to get to the States; probably be another $500 (at least) for freight.

true..

A lot of what "sounds good" comes down to what a person grew up seeing/hearing and subsequently associating with what "good" is supposed to sounds like, according the prevailing social consensus.

Classic example is here in North America, most folks find the typical American V8 pleasing to the ear. The rumble is due mostly to its firing order that is uneven between the two banks.

However, for me personally, I've never been too keen on the American muscle car genre. Up until very recently, most of them were all engine, with shitty brakes and crappy suspensions that couldn't handle corners worth a darn. The latest Camaro and Mustangs have become much more well-rounded driver's cars, but I still associate the V8 rumble with Detroit pig iron of the 70's and '80s. I was much more into Euro sports cars that emphasize handling as much as - if not more than - HP. So those cars were what I grew up drooling over.

I was also into sportbikes in a huge way, which for the longest time was dominated by Japanese inline 4 cylinder with 180deg flat crank and even firing order. That high-pitch wail of an inline4, shrieking past 12,000RPM has forever etched in my head as what pure performance sounds like. In fact, the latest Corvette C8 Z06 V8 is essentially two flat-crank inline4's sharing a common output shaft. It sounds closer to a Ferrari V8 than the traditional Detroit muscle car V8. I always find it amusing when youtube reviewers that used to trash-talk "4-bangers" and "4-poppers" all-of-a-sudden started singing praise for the new Corvette's shrieking V8. :)

At the end if the day, it's all subjective.

100% ..... i prefer a faster revving v8 vs the dodge hemi's. those sound sooo lazy.

What are some of the engine platform characteristics that shape or make the end exhaust sound we hear? I'm curious because to me the Stinger's 3.3 exhaust sounds just awful no matter which system it has on it. I've stuck with the stock exhaust because everything I've heard from the aftermarket just sounds terrible.

There are lots of other v6 tt platforms that sound great; even my friends stock F150 ecoboost sounds waaaaay better than mine.

What's the deal? And is it even "fixable"?

Thx
I’m in the same so too, I don’t like any of the exhaust out there. I also been thinking about just leaving stock exhaust if I can’t find anything worth it, not ganna pay over 1-2k for exhaust setup and not be happy
