ECU Speed Limiter

What do you think the theoretical top speed of a stock Stinger is? Assuming the road is straight, endless and no traffic...

I'm betting somewhere in the 170-180 range

We can hit 190 easy...... I would recommend at least having lowering springs and windows up lol. That’s assuming an endless road.

Closer to 180, plus. Given enough room, as you say.

I have seen videos of a little bit over 190mph.
I don't remember the exact number.

(not stock!)

It was a Korean car that went a bit over 190 MPH; it was in Kilometers, though; the conversion to miles ended up at 193, iirc. I didn't know there was a video. All I saw was a pic of his dash showing the speedometer. The pic was fuzzy, indicating that it had been taken at speed (but someone said it could be faked on a dyno). Nothing more came out of that. It was last June or July, I think.

I didn't have the guts to hit that particular milestone, but I am pretty certain she could have. I would have gone to jail regardless, so now I regret bailing..

I've driven exotics and motorcycles on racetracks that may have gotten up there, but my Stinger has taken me almost 30mph (indicated) faster than my previous fastest street car, which was over 150. It was surreal how "planted" it felt.

Edit - I had significant help from the road gradient. On a level road, not much over 170..

This stands out. My singular fastest experience was up to 155, on an undulating two lane highway. And instead of feeling like it was leaping over the undulations, this car got, if anything, more stable the faster it went. That was as gratifying as it was surprising. "Surreal" is a good descriptive for it.

I went with the JB4 for half the price of the lap 3.

Agree piggyback can be the way to go in this case.
I didn’t have many choices I was one of the original few (early January 2018) that bought this car with the undisclosed limpdic* mode that no one was informed about then we complained and all the disclaimers came out. So in order to get rid of my speed limiter it was lap3 or tork now I feel much better I have a full stinger that has NO limpdic* lol

What is "limp dic"? Is that your term for no Sport mode? The trans flash was supposed to cure rough shifting, and ended up "lobotomizing" the trans logic so that Sport went "limp". But I only read of one or two complaints of this on the forum.

I’m am referring to limp dick mode where the car was limited to 135mph on AWD models when it was advertised at 167. Then we all complained to Kia HQ and they came out with all the tiny print disclaimers. But the first of us that bought it very early 2018 didn’t know that, there was no literature or fine print that said anything about the limp dick mode. We found out the hard way the disappointing way .

Oh, yeah, that topic. Heh. You could get Tork or somebody to raise the limiter to 167. That wouldn't violate the warranty. And if you had UHP tires on when you do the change, you'd simply be acquiring the same performance for the summer tires variant.

It’s all set the right tires the right program with no limit..... the car I was supposed to buy is now what I own. Oh and warranty is kept and not voided. In my case anyways pays to know people in high places lol

The speed limitation for A/S equipped cars was in the brochure I picked up before the car was even available for sale back in 2017. I posted a pic of it here a long time ago.

.. and it's not AWD models. It's 18" A/S tire equipped models, based on the speed limitation of the OEM A/S tires. My AWD with Pilot 4 Sport tires has no speed restriction (that I have found, at least, well above 167mph.)

Would love to know how you did that, I bought mine in Dec 17. Nothing stating reduced speed as well. All I got was we will send you some free floor mats.

I’m not getting into this battle again in my area there was not brochure there was nothing in the dealer just a gorgeous car on the lot I wanted and a untrained salesmen to sell it (not his fault at all for the lack of his training) that salesman still apologizes till this day to me and swears he had no idea that it had a limp dick and I believe him.

I heard heard the floor mat deal I told HQ its gonna take more than that to keep me happy after I signed in blood for the next several years of my life for a car I don’t want now. So I got a pretty good maintenance package and I told them strait out that’s fine you won’t fix it I will and I did. How I did it was knowing the right people from my past when I was young, single, sponsored and in the car scene big time I called them back years later and they all helped me out get this car to normal. Including the help of one of my local dealers and service department. Everything that has been done to it to fix it in the case of a warranty will be removed like it wasn’t ever there. I don’t care to get into a debate again with some I’m over it, it’s fixed and safely done I’m happy period. Cost me alittle more that it shouldn’t have but now I have the car I intended to buy when I signed my name.

You sound more than a little conflicted to me. :D You don't want the car anymore but you're happy with the car? I can understand the annoyance of finding out after the fact that your vehicle is "limp". But I never did understand the outrage. You've done what anyone can do: fix it. If that's the worst disappointment that the Stinger gives, then it amounts to practically a zero, imho.

No no maybe I didn’t make it clear. back when I bought it before I fixed it I told them I don’t want it with a limp dick then I became determined to fix it now it’s fixed no one will take my stinger from me lol
