Drivers seat - side scuffing badly

I found the video with the not perfect review. The rattles are at about 15 minutes. He shows a lot of good and where Kia skimped on it. Good watch.

That Videos (good find btw) also shows some wear on the seat at 6 Mins.

Yesterday 22nd May my drivers seat upper section leather was replaced under warranty.

Good to hear it is finally replaced for you @Madman. Hopefully it holds up better for you. I am sure you will keep us posted.

Great question. I've not had a chance to have a really close look as yet and compare to the passenger side - leave for work in the dark etc. I'll have a look tomorrow and report back. The service dept advisor was a little vague as to what was done....

Ok, so a couple of weeks later....it appears to be exactly the same material. You know how I can tell? Its already showing scuff marks.....I will keep an eye on it - obviously.

How about making a video of you entering and exiting the car? Its not likely you'd get the same batch of bad leather. It's most probably user error. Coming from a full size SUV, I definitely had to change and tweak my process to entering and exiting. Was unconsciously using my elbow to brace myself on entry and using it again as a pushing point too launch myself out of the car. And if you can't change because of mobilty limitation consider a seat cover or some type of side bolster protection.

That's how I get into my car....thought that was normal practice. And no scuff marks for me. The auto retracting of the seat also makes it easier to get in and out and avoid contact on the side cushions.

No the opposite, when you get in and slide down the bolster it wears out , doing it the way shown in the video means no damage or wear.

Btw, if you have started your care remotely (with auto-start), auto retracting of the seat happens in that case as well? Or there's setting for it? I often start my car remotely, before I seat in, especially in winter time.

I agree with you.

I believe this is just a case of having to be conscious of what part of my body is making contact with the side bolster. Its leather, and unfortunately does require a little more caring. And plus the fact its a low profile car and pretty aggressive bolster which make it prone to damage if your not entering or exiting correctly.

Remote start acts just like pressing the button on the dash to start the car. So your seat will move into driving position when you start the car. However opening the door turns off the car, again just like pressing the button on the dash so your seat and steering wheel will go back to their “off” positions before you get in the car.

So I took my car in for wrapped rotors and showed the service manager the driver side bolster. He took some pics and sent to his manager and they said they would fix it one time only under warrenty.

Like to hear their rationale for that? Thank christ KIA doesnt have the defective airbags....sorry, we only fix them once even though we really didnt....ring ring - hello, is that consumer affairs

To all the helpful people telling me I'm getting in and out of the car incorrectly - I'm doing exactly what I've done for over 36 years and with MR2's, WRX's, BMW's and the leather side bolsters on my TRD Aurion were as aggressive. Remember, the damage was evident within a month of "normal" use. Shouldn't have to do gymnastics to get into the car. And I'm not the only one....
