I'm sure this has been addressed somewhere, but I can't find anything and the manual is ridiculously ambiguous.
I just got a 22 stinger with the 3.3 liter.
I've learned on this forum that the filter is a top mount under the cover?
Can anyone confirm this?
And also, do I need to remove that entire undercarriage cover to drain? I really hope there's a reasonable solution to NOT have to do that, I feel like every time one of those covers is removed the plastic clips get worse and worse and eventually it is beat as hell.
I drive a lot so I change my oil about every 2 months.
Also, I can't even find in the manual what the capacity is?????
I am I missing something or is the manual really this unhelpful?

The process is explained in that video.

Page 8-7 of the owner's manual (page 583).

I'd say plan on buying 2 of those 5 qt jugs.

Gotcha, thanks guys
wow, on the probably 20+ cars I've changed oil on over the years I've never once seen a type where you swap out the actual filter media itself
The auto parts stores are telling me the 2022 AND 2021 don't even show up in their systems for oil filter.

Anybody know if it is the same filter as the slightly older ones?

European cars typically use filter media like what the Stinger uses. My 15 GTI used Mann paper filters. They were great. The only downside of this engine design is the filter access itself being at the bottom of the vehicle. Otherwise you could use a simple extractor and call it a day. Just my .2c

I use a vacuum extractor through the dip stick tube, I did a drain from the plug after I used it the first time. Hardy any amount of oil was left in the pan. The oil filter is under the cover as well but at least it has a round cover that can easily be removed without the rest of the cover. Saves alot of time and aggravation but it is slower to extract then drain. I have a 6 liter extractor and I have to empty it once for a full oil change, 3 full 5 liter jugs of oil are good for almost exactly 2 oil changes. I buy Wix WL10237 oil filters from Rock Auto(about 8$ each), they are about half the cost of the OEM and look to be better quality.

Every filter I'm seeing says 2018-2021, even on the kia parts site itself.
Do you guys think it is just because they haven't updated the websites yet?
This is the same engine correct?

Yes and no. For my 2022 2.5T I could only find the filter at the dealer, 2.0T filter is no go. There some some changes (exhaust I think) to the 3.3T to gain a few more hp, but the engine _should_ be the same.

I'd call a dealer's part dept tomorrow to confirm right part based on your VIN.

I think the engine is identical with the exception of a little higher displacement. I would call the dealership to see if they list the same oil filter for the 2022.

ok, I will do that.

slightly different topic, and another thing I swear I cannot find in the manual anywhere.
Anybody know how that exhaust valve actually works? It seems like the sound never changes.
If I look at it when the car is off I can see the valve is open, but if I start it and get out the valve is closed.
But while driving the sound is very very minimal.
Is it an rpm or something that it opens up at? Or throttle position?

Similar situation - I added a quick access port + quick change valve.

^yeah I think I'm going to have to modify that cover too. I just hate taking those things off. I swear it takes longer to take covers off and replace them than to do the whole oil change job.
Did you get one of those Fumotor valves or something?

Yes

through the access port - I have:
  • EZ (AL-106) Silver 14mm-1.5 Thread Size Oil Drain Valve Adapter
  • EZ (EZ-106) Silver 14mm-1.5 Thread Size Oil Drain Valve
  • EZ Oil Drain Valve (L-001) L-Shaped Hose End - 3/8" L-Shape

Spill free, no drain pan needed. Just drain directly into the container.

What is the part you used for the access port?

I have a serious question. I took my stinger in to the Kia service department for an oil change. I specifically told them I was looking for a service department I could trust as I had some serious problems with a different one with my optima so there was no way I was taking my stinger there. Well I got the oil changed and drive home and a day later I opened the hood just to check everything out and what do I find? My motor cover missing!!! Now I always changed my oils in my cars but for warranty purposes I thought it’s best to have them service it so there is a record in their system and I never had to take the motor cover off the top of the motor to put oil back in the motor. Now why would these people have to take the cover off for an oil change? What could they have possibly needed to do under that cover when the oil fill is on the drivers side of the motor out of the way from the cover??? I called the service department and told them they have my cover still there and never put it back on and I’m waiting fir the manager to call me to explain why it was necessary to remove the motor cover to change the oil. I’m really trying to figure out what they were doing under that cover. This is really bothering me as I already had not one but two hose clamps moved to the middle of two one inch diameter coolant hoses in my optima after an oil change only to see antifreeze on the ground then see where it was leaking from and find out those pinch hose clamps were moved to the middle of the hoses then called the general manager of that dealership to report that happening to which he didn’t sound surprised at all that I told him this and ended up trying to accuse me of moving them. Now why the F would I try to sabotage my own motor especially since it’s a new motor that was put in because of the recall and the new motor has 35,000 miles on it. Idiot!!!! I’m wondering if anyone else has been having problems like this in any other service departments and since they aren’t really making new car sales because of the chip shortage if they are purposely doing these things to bring in business.

crap like this is why i do my own oil changes. with my last car i was feeling lazy and decided to let them change the brake fluid when it was in for inspection - picked the car up and went to drive away, and the pedal went to the floor. they never bled the brakes  did a U-turn right back to the service area and had to wait longer for them to actually finish the job.

also the fact i don't need an appointment and can do it whenever i want, and the time saved driving to and from the dealer and waiting for them to do the work ....

I hear you. I know Kia will fight you tooth and nail if something ends up happening to the motor and will say it was lack of maintenance even though you have all the receipts and I’m telling you now if I see my check engine light come on in my stinger the gates of hell are going to open up. It’s bad enough the cost of everything is going through the roof let alone pricks like this doing this to peoples cars and I can guarantee I’m not the only one this happen to. I mean from the second time I took my optima in for an oil change and tire rotation back in 2014 they tried to pull this with me. I took the valve caps off the front tires and what do you know they were still off the front tires when it come out of service only for me to tell them to get it back on there and rotate the tires in which they claimed they did until I showed him the valve caps from the front tires. He then went in to supposedly talk to the tech then come out to say oh he didn’t rotate the tires cuz he didn’t know but I told him how is that possible when he checked it off on this service sheet? How could he possibly check it off if he didn’t know? This was the bs game they tried playing but I’m not one of those people who put gas in the car and just drive it. I do my own maintenance and started going to a different service which seemed pretty good and legit only for oil changes and of course the recall motor they put in but now the Kia dealer who was playing all these games ended up buying that Kia dealership recently so that’s why I was looking for another one for oil changes only but it looks like I’m going to have to do those myself now and keep the receipts and records cuz it seems anymore they are going to do whatever they have to do to keep the money coming in since they’re not selling very many new cars because of the chip shortage. I’ve wanted this exact stinger since I saw it in a magazine in 2017 before they even come out on the lot and now I finally got it last year I have these a**holes trying to play stupid games. I can’t stand it!! Got a 2018 GT2 Hichroma red by the way and love it!!

i use the Autosist app ... tracks maintenance, records, etc for your cars. i even use it to keep track of my riding mower maintenance LOL!

you can put all your misc info in for each vehicle (insurance cards, tire pressures, oil capacity, tire size, etc.) and track mileage and date for maintenance items. you can even take photos and add them to the log for each item ... i snap pics of oil, filter, and receipts and add them.

it will even generate a report you can print out to give to new owner if you ever sell the car.
