Is there any difference between buying the SSR downpipes or just cutting out the secondary cats?

Doesn't appear to be using a bigger pipe so I'm not sure what the difference is besides $500 vs $75.

The aftermarket pipes are round and I believe they get rid of a pipe kink somewhere, it flows better. But deleting the cat would only help regardless.

The SSR pipes are 3" and have none of the kinks or bends of the stock cat. Stock cat delete would help but certainly not get rid of the flow restrictions from their funky bends (I believe some of the bends reduce flow down to 1"). Would highly recommend the SSR pipes if you are serious about performance.

I honestly think they are great, i just dont see the reason why they have a $500 tag. Im going to reach out to fab shops and muffler shops see how much they would charge me for 3" pipe and make these same down pipes.

Would adding downpipes with the stock exhaust give you a little turbo whistle, but not increase the sound that much?

Not sure. This thread was for opinions on spending the $500 on SSR Downpipes or just cutting out the cats possible seeing about cutting the kink out.

Thanks for your valuable reply. I understand that. I figured I'd roll a question into this thread rather than creating another, since performance, sound and pricing is all a question here...

Was just trying to help you out. This wasnt what the thread was about so you may not get the answer you are looking for here :)

In all honesty, I am thinking the same. These aren’t 600+ HP cars, so how much can the factory kink really hinder performance. I can’t justify $500 for bent tubing with a flange.

I don't know about DPs but adding a catback has certainly made my turbo's whistle much louder.

Nice! I guess what I'm getting at, is my AMG had a semi-quiet exhaust system, adding DP made the turbo noise very noticeable but kept the rumble down. The Stingers that I have heard, with turbo noise from the exhaust have been insanely loud. Not what I am going for with this. I just want a little "ssSSSssss" when I hit the gas.

Exactly my thoughts. $500 for 100 in material lol. I think i found a custom fab that will do them for alot cheaper. Ill keep you all posted.

I helped install the downpipes on my car and the factory pipe is not kinked it’s just slightly oval but I can’t see this making a difference in power but much at all. After seeing the stock pipes I wish I would have just removed the secondary cats.

Let me know where it is, I might jump on that too!

With stock exhaust and downpipes I did not notice the turbo getting much louder. Maybe very slightly louder but you do get a bit more engine sound in a good way.

Anyone got a picture of the secondary cats?

I gutted mine so as it looks completely stock, the added performance was well worth it..

I purchased the SSR downpipes because I wanted the option to return to stock if needed for possible emmision compliance. Right now, vehicles are not inspected where I live, but who knows what the future will bring. As for custom fabrication ... I would rather spend more for a quality product. I'm gonna own my Stinger for a very, very long time, if not a lifetime. Nothing is too good for my GT2. DPs are in transit now!
