I'm gonna be in the market for a new Sports Sedan and there are a couple I'm interested in currently. Obviously the Stinger and another on e is the Genesis G70. When the Stinger first came out I was definitely intrigued by it but I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. Lately tho the more I look at them and research them the more I'm liking them. I drove the G70 last week and will be driving the Stinger this week.

My current ride is a 2014 Audi A6 with a ECU tune and I absolutely love it, but with these German cars when things go bad and you are out of warranty it gets costly.

I'll be snooping around and trying to learn from everyone.

Thanks

The G70 and Stinger are very closely related vehicles, but there are some differences.

I came from the VAG world as well (Mk4 Bora (Jetta in the US) 46 4Motion (with the 2.8L narrow-angle V6 and the same AWD system as the 8L Audi A3/S3). You will find the AWD system on the Stinger to be quite different to Audi's on-demand system. Tuning on the Stinger isn't anywhere near as mature as the VAG market either (where there are plenty of flash-tuning companies that are well established with well defined products).

Welcome. The Stinger is more practical vis-à-vis roomy. Other than that, I'd say the G70 is superior (slightly) performance-wise; while the Stinger is the better looker. :D

Everyone will have an opinion but you're on a Stinger forum and I'd say we'd all suggest the Stinger is a better option. :)

I find the Stinger and Audi 6 to be very similar in many ways - styling, quality, performance - except the KIA is a lot cheaper. I've confused them out in the wild from a distance on many occasions.

It will be interesting to hear your perspective on how they compare whichever way you end up going.

If interior space isn't an issue (it was for me!), and AWD + performance matters to you, the G70 comes with LSD in the AWD, as far as I know, while that's not available (yet?) in the Stinger AWD. There are rumors the 2020 Stinger may have that standard, and it's somewhat confirmed that the 2019 (2020?) Stinger GTS will have it, although no one knows when it will be available.

I had pondered both the G70 and Stinger and ended up with the Stinger for various reasons:

Stinger was slightly less new than the G70 and I opted for as late of a build as I could when buying to avoid some of the "first year problems" which I inherited anyway. I prefer the looks of the Stinger over the G70, both inside and out. The Stinger was also about 6 or 7K cheaper than the G70 at the time of purchase.

Regrets? The G70 reportedly has better tuned suspension. The G70 is also a little quicker than the Stinger. I also think I may have enjoyed the concierge service, thus avoiding dealer trips. I also don't have the research to back this up but I'm confident that the G70 has fewer issues on average than the Stinger has - while the Stinger is trying to be Kia's "near luxury" car, the Genesis is Hyundai's Lexus, I think it is held to a little higher standard by H/K.

Indeed get out from that audi before warranty is up.

Yeah the Quattro system is awesome and my Audi is so fun to drive. One of my favorite cars to drive but I'm out of warranty and as we all know these German cars arent cheap to repair. Lo .

Today went for the 60k maintenance of my Porsche 981 and dealer was asking 5000 usd I said f no! I am tired of these Germans charging you an arm and a leg for maintenance, it seems is wise prior warranty expires to get rid of the german car before becomes a money pit.

Stinger and G70 shares the same chassis platform.
I absolutely love my Stinger, but I do wish I get the same service quality as Genesis.
My buddy has G70 and dealership picks up and leaves him a loaner vehicle for any services.
whereas I have to drop off my Stinger at the dealership for service and drive back in Kia Rio or Forte if I'm lucky.

Yep, the dealership experience is not so great. Kia better improve this as they move upmarket. It is very "low rent" at most Kia dealerships and they are starting to sell a lot of cars that are north of $40K in price.

Could you elaborate? My understanding is that the Stinger is a completely new platform. If the G70 "shares" it, that would involve getting rid of the giant hatch hole for one thing.

G70 and Stinger shares exactly same chassis platform. Stinger has extended wheel base of that platform and G70 has shorter wheel base of that platform.
They have the same chassis components (Steering, brake, suspension and etc.)
Steering and suspension geometries are exactly the same.
I work for company which supplies major chassis components for G70 and Stinger

When we say "chassis", I am not thinking of the suspension or other components. I am thinking about this:
stinger bones.webp
There is no way that a 111" wheelbase or 114" wheelbase, and a trunk or a hatch, can use the same chassis.

So, I don't know that Motor Trend is using "same platform" to refer to the chassis; but rather, all the attached components (running gear), which of course are pretty much identical between the two models.

I can't find a three-quarter view of the G70 chassis online.

Stinger and G70 clearly have different unibody frames.
Unlike body-on-frame vehicles, unibody vehicles have front and rear sub-frames which gets mounted to the unibody frame (like the picture you showed)
suspension, steering and powertrain geometries are exact the same on front and rear sub-frames for Stinger and G70.
that's what I meant by platform sharing.

One reason I went with the Stinger was I believe it is going to become a cult classic. (I once had a 65 Mustang, 2 days after they came out and once had a '66 Vette convertible, both tops 427, all options). The Stinger a much better car in about every way than anything I owned before. I really think in some years they will sell for more used than they do now new. (Appreciation instead of depreciation).

(Appreciation instead of depreciation).
That would be fun, of course, to have our purchase turn into an investment. Doesn't happen that often with cars. But I got the Stinger because the realization came to me, that I am in a traveling stage of my life, and this car has everything I want out on the open road. Everything.
