Well, good news!

I just got my car back from the dealership today after getting a repaint done on the front half of the car. From what I can tell, every issue I was having is gone. Once I get off work today, I will give the car a good wash, and really look into every section.

Stripped and repainted:
- A Pillars
- Hood
- Front Bumper
- Left Fender
- Right Fender
- Roof
- Rocker Panels

While I have the car back, I am still in the process of trying to get some sort of compensation check, as my Micro Blue was showing all of the same exact signs as the Sunset Yellow.

Update to my repaint.

Everything is looking great, going for a clear bra next weekend, and roof wrap tonight or tomorrow. As for chips or bubbling...
1) They missed on spot on my roof, but it was a chip from a rock, so I'm just going to paint pen that one.
2) As for headlights, if you look very close, pushing the panel away from the light, you can see the new paint rubbed off already. I'm not going to pursue that issue at all, as its a design flaw of a first year model, so be it. Hopefully that issue is fixed on the 2019 Models for future owners.

So this has become our Evo My DCT crapped itself, M3 vanos is dead, etc; thread and issue.
Too Funny. I have a "Recovering VANOS failed" E46 M3 sitting in garage next to My Yellow "paint affected" Stinger. Vanos is now bulletproof so hopefully Stinger can follow that same course with new paint!!

I stopped by my Kia dealer today. My son's friend works there, he's the guy who helped us with the Stinger and an Optima for my daughter.Spoke with the sales manager and the service manager about the repaint, they said the reason Kia is probably not repainting the plastic is because the paint will stick to the plastic surface and the paint on the plastic is more pliable to be able to flex with stones and such that hit it during driving conditions. They also gave me a Kia paints touch up pen when I bought the car.
Flexible paint...is this a joke? Ive never heard of such a thing. Either way, hard to tell if its helped or hindered my flaking issues.

. Heck, just put duct tape on a section and rip it off. Flaking, chipping paint will come up with it. End of discussion!
I have actually considered this. When my repaint comes around...i WANT to be present with my gopro to video document the PPF removal. I would be willing to bet paint comes up with it!!

I take it the tabs didnt grenade your engine?

That will save some duct tape! ;) Seriously (this is all serious), why don't people with flaking/chipping paint do exactly this: slap duct tape on the afflicted areas in front of the dealership people, on video, and record the results? Send THAT to Kia. It should produce some interesting waffling, should they try and explain why their paint sticks to duct tape better than their primer.

A bit off topic, but no tab damage on mine, oil pump disk was cracked and basically did it all as preventative! Seeing this has brought back many memories of restless nights and driving days! Thanks for that

Thats actually brilliant. Like this guy?

Even if you don't watch the whole video, skip to 10 min mark to see him pour a box of rocks on his Hyundai hood. Sorry, Kia is not coming to the rescue. He will be wearing that blue tape for a long time!

What a stunt! I will leave it at that.

I am, at the current moment, fed the f*** up with Kia pulling this bullshit. I am going to end up with a buyback and then go to Jason @KiaofMuncie and purchase a 2019 Panthera Metal GT2 AWD.

I got a quote from the body shop that I know the local dealer will use and the ADDITIONAL shit that Kia wont fix will cost ~$4250. Coincidence that they are giving us $5,000 as a 'goodwill' offer???? I think not. I would buy another car, but i love the Stinger and @KiaofMuncie took such good care of me that I will go back to them for my 2nd Stinger.

Dont do a repaint, make them eat this 50-52k purchase and get a 2019.

I think the deal is arranged so that you have to repaint FIRST, then explore your other two options within thirty days. The "good will offering" of five grand is be used to cover additional costs to make the entire respray to your satisfaction. I would be very surprised if Kia were handing out $5K cheques, while also taking cars back left and right as buybacks!

I can see you are frustrated and I would be too. I would give them back the car and tell them that you want a 2019 as if you got another one the car would already be 6 months old. Wait 6 months and pickup your newbie . What youre saying they are doing to you is just fobbing you off.

It is interesting to see the varied emotions and thoughts regarding the paint “Recall”. I am torn between each of those emotions myself. I agree that the lack of help given to the other colors is unfortunate. And I am definitely unhappy with the fact that the plastic parts of the car won’t be painted. I wish to keep the car but I worry that the repaint will not hold up or look as good as the originally paint. And I worry that the resprays could fail too. What does everyone think or feel? Should I be worried? I spoke to corporate and my dealer today and they’re ready to get me painted. They said that they’ll use the body shop that they always use. The dealer said it took them a week to do the other Yellow they had. It belongs to the dealership’s owner. He had it done two months ago. I checked out their site. Good reviews on their overall repair work. No reviews about how well they paint. Should I be worried? What sort of research and “thongs” should I do before I move forward?

I am really wanting to keep the car. One would assume the paint will be fine once it’s repainted. They repaint cars all the time and they last. Yes I’m upset they aren’t doing the plastic stuff but in time that could change with the way most colors are experiencing chips on their bumpers ... I would like for them to throw in a clear bra or something to help protect the new paint and will be asking for this. Or even clear bra the bumper since they aren’t painting it... the car is very nice for a mid 30 k car and nothing in this price range will compete performance/option wise

Did they resolve the paint issue for the remaining 2018 models or should I be concerned if I buy one this month?

Not sure, just dont buy yellow or blue. I reckon Deep chroma blue is your best bet.
