I'd open a new case with them. I was able to get my 40+ chips covered.
"If at first you don't succeed, try, try again?" I bet someone in @Tonkabob's situation wants to scream, "shut the F up!"

Well, good news!

I just got my car back from the dealership today after getting a repaint done on the front half of the car. From what I can tell, every issue I was having is gone. Once I get off work today, I will give the car a good wash, and really look into every section.

Stripped and repainted:
- A Pillars
- Hood
- Front Bumper
- Left Fender
- Right Fender
- Roof
- Rocker Panels

While I have the car back, I am still in the process of trying to get some sort of compensation check, as my Micro Blue was showing all of the same exact signs as the Sunset Yellow.

Hmmm.. early re-paint fail?

I get you now: you've found a pic of a mangy Stinger and you're spamming the forum. Caught you! Hah! ;)

Keep us updated on that front.

Yes indeed. This where pestering will lose you nothing and possibly gain you much. What are they going to do, report you to who? We are the ones who do the reporting. Car manufacturers are the ones who get their feet held to the fire. I hope I never have to engage in that sort of "business". But I wish all you all enmeshed in paint issues all the Best Success. It will be good for Kia, too, if they just cooperate.

Could someone post a picture of this? I’m looking to purchase a Black Stinger tomorrow with a 5/18 build date. Thanks.

When did you get your approval? They originally said yes then changed their mind. Wonder if the $ for the Yellow recall is adding up and making them change their tune.

There are multiple posts from January and February from early adopters who were having paint issues. I think those posts were from owners of cars that were colors other than yellow. Just throwing that out there.

I also believe I recall several owners who experienced chipping at that point and invested in ppf. I think there may have even been a spirited discussion comparing ppf to ceramic coating. At this point for folks who own an early production car it really looks like their is a model wide paint adhesion issue.

True. I was very patient waiting 2 months for the case to progress. First month+ the case went no where despite my weekly checkins. (And they admitted it went no where) I think ill try my luck pushing back on the current case. Refusing to attempting a fraudulent insurance claim seems reasonable to me.

Cannot wait to hear and see the results on this one. Hopefully they have chosen a good body shop. Given the specificity of the repaint bulletin, i would ask for pics of each step to ensure they follow this correctly.

Sounds like you are aware of the 30 day window once complete so mind that for sure if there are any issues on the back end!!

I will see about the "good body shop" bit. While I like the dealer and my service adviser, I think that the car is going off-site somewhere to get painted. I will make sure to ask when I drop it off. As for @Tonkabob, all I can say is that sucks. I do have a phone number or email address you might be interested in, if you decide to ask me.

All I know is that now, I am very glad I chose the yellow one, if only for the reason that the madness will stop for me soon enough. Either with a car that is properly done or with me having a look at a G70, as small as it is.

My clock is now running, and I will know one way or the other in 44 days, two weeks from yesterday + 30 to make sure. In 45 I will be either driving a Stinger or a Genesis.

Yeah, what I mean is if your bumper is flaking/peeling/etc, there's no reason for them NOT to fix it. While the bumper may not be included in the service bulletin for yellow Stingers, that kind of issue will still be covered under warranty.
Now i understand...i will keep the forum updated as mine progresses.

@jondyer - best of luck and i will be watching your status closely!!

Started the process mid/late May. Dropped the car off for repaint 7/11. No say in where it was to be repainted, done by dealerships choice.

Yea, I was one of them, here.
Paint Quality
Bought the car first week of January, didn't drive it for a couple of weeks because of the weather, noticed chips at the end of January. My case is still open, I regret buying the car when I did.

Edit: Pretty obvious it's an early build date thing, but Kia won't admit to that since there are too many non-yellow that fall into that category.

Hopefully this is extended to other colors down the road and they are using the yellow to work out the kinks in the process. Who knows, perhaps it will be expanded and you will get a better offer than has been given to yellow once all of us stir up a storm for them :)

Today I inspected 3 models at a dealership in Chicago today for the common areas of chipping and headlight rubbing. I enjoyed the responses on this thread which provided direct information. The more info gathered, the better decisions can be made.

First car (build date 3/18 with 111 miles) was a base 2.0L silver without headlight rubbing and no visible chipping on the front end. There was one tiny black nick/hole in the front of the drivers mirror cap. The car was a bit dirty so I couldn't see the hood too well to state that it was clear of chipping. I noticed a slight mal-alignment of the front passenger fender to the plastic front bumper cover near the seam at the wheel well. The trunk floor was unpainted, having the yellowish primer only. The engine bay had color however was dull and not smooth as if it wasn't clear coated. I could imagine the engine bay/hood latch area would potentially rust in the Chicago winters due to salt on the roads if it was not cleaned regularly or protected in some way.

The other 2.0L was white and had no noticeable paint defects or headlight rubbing issues. I noticed some gapping in areas around the headlights with areas that were tighter that could potentially rub (at the lower corners closest to the grille) and other areas with gaps which seemed a little too large. No build date was noted due to not having access to the inside.

The third was a black premium that had not showed any headlight rubbing issues. I did not have as thorough of an observation for this model as I did with the other 2 so I was not able to note any chips.

I don't think so. As @ant pointed out, the rubbing causing flaking is proof that there is an adhesion issue going on; properly adhering paint won't peel or chip when rubbed. It could eventually wear through, but it won't separate from the undercoat. So, by that definition, even the headlight assembly damaged areas are behaving like paint failures; even if there are no other areas that are chipping/flaking.
I am not sure that is true though. The headlight rub is not a scraping across the paint I do not believe. The headlight is pushing against the bumper and the only thing that can give is the paint.

It is all just semantics though really. If a design flaw is causing the paint failure it should still be covered under warranty.
