If true, parts of the car that would not be repainted include: front and rear bumpers, hatch. Gas door? Anything else?

Sucks because it doesn’t address the bumper/headlight issue, and it may not match 100%. Also, just noticed they missed the back edge of my gas door so you can see through to primer.

I’m glad they’re working out a plan and acknowledging A problem, but they need to recognize other colors are affected. Getting a new color 2018 doesn’t guarantee it won’t exhibit the same issues, plus I doubt they’re going to install an LSD (Limited Slip Differential) on a different color GT for me.

I love the car and want to keep it, but will definitely need to give it some thought. I’d be ok with a respray if it’s done right, so that’s going to be the big question for them to answer.

The panel under the rear license plate is plastic- (mine cracked down the middle under license plate) paint matched well on yellow. The tail light assembly is also all plastic.

I can't believe they are going to paint everything else on the car except for the bumpers, that would be dumb as hell. You would NEVER get a repaint to match without redoing the bumpers also. Whenever I get the letter in the mail and discuss the final option, which was going to be a respray, that may be a deal breaker. No way in hell can they just do 90% and leave the bumpers.......... that would look like utter ass and no way in hell I would accept it being done that way. Full repaint, bumpers and all, or I may seriously have to consider the full buyback and got after the G70......

I REALLY hope that rep didn't know what they were fully explaining because that would be a huge mistake to leave those 2 pieces out of a repaint.

You're wrong about the bumper not matching. Again, a good shop with a state of the art paint chamber can do anything.

Maybe they could, but I personally wouldn't accept it. It's a full repaint of the WHOLE car, or nothing. I wouldn't accept an 80-90% job on anything, much less this car.

Hence the reason why I am waiting until I get the letter with everything written out in detail.:thumbup:

If its a total respray then it should include the bumpers. Otherwise its like buying a car without the wheels... a bit stupid.

I agree with you there, anyone with a yellow really should push for a full respray. There is something very wrong with that yellow paint, unlike anything the other colors have seen.

Edit: and if they really did screw up the yellow paint with "oil" then a full respray is the best option. The other colors are just thin paint, apparently...

The paint on the bumpers is the same as the rest of the car so why not paint the bumpers? Id bring that up with them, they cant deny that logic.

Folks - based on recent events, I think this thread may need the headlight-rubbing paint issues moved to a new thread? There seem to be two different things going on here. One is the paint almost "popping" off, and the other is the scraping at the margins of the headlights?

Just a thought.

Mostly because I've not checked around my headlights yet. LOL

I agree but really we are still dealing with a paint defect so it may be be better to keep it in one place. Even with minor areas touching it should not chip like is has been around the lights. The paint is just too thinly applied. This is one of the reasons i did not put on paint protection film. If i get a chip i want to respray the whole thing with extra layers of paint and clear coat as presently you can see a slight colour difference between front bumper and hood. My car is SWP.

Is anyone getting photos of these non yellow stingers chiping and flaking on the dealer lots? Could come in handy.

I have three other cars that I took pictures of at the dealers lot/showroom, with less than 40-240 miles on the cars. @Mach_Tuck also took some pictures of two cars on the dealership's lot near him, and sent them to me today too. Spots showing at headlights and body of car.

It is too bad that I don't know anyone with a sunset yellow or failing paint in the other colors so I could take thickness readings and see if there is a correlation so that we could detect the good from the bad. Otherwise it may just be a poor paint formulation with nothing to do with the application.

The word is that the yellow paint itself was defective Chum. Something about too much oil or something added to the mixture.

Ok I get ya still would be nice to see if there is a correlation in the other failing colors so we could detect a stinger likely to have a paint problem from one that is unlikely to have the issue.

My micro blue is getting more paint defects showing on my hood. Only I would spot it but, dammit
Not normal

The paint on the other colors is apparently extremely thin.

@AV8R I heard that as well. My only issue with the choice of a different colour is that I would not care to repeat this particular exercise.

To be honest, I never considered a new yellow one that was already painted. That is an excellent idea sir. Very good, wonder if that is an option considering the supply chain and availability?
Just checked cars.com, there are 47 yellow unsold Stingers listed. Some dealers do not use cars.com so there must be more. Just an observation not a recommendation.
