wow that's great news for you guys
Option 1: Full repaint of the car in the factory yellow. No mention of a lifetime paint warranty but that may be covered more in the letter
Option 2: Free replacement of my car with a similar spec but in a different color. No mileage penalty or other fee, basically drive up, drop off and drive out.
Option 3: Full by buyback of the car. She did say that i would be returned the full dollar amount of what i have spent. I'm going to assume that would include taxes, down payments and all of it. I'm sure there will be more in the letter.
So CLASSY KIA! What a company - actually cares and is proactively solving the problem. Great news.![]()
I think it's a little too soon to be patting Kia on the back. Yellow doesn't have even a third of the "yes" votes here, it was a limited option in the States, and it didn't launch with the other colors here either. It's literally the easiest one for them to claim has an issue.
Once you agree to a repaint/trade-in/buyback, you will most likely have to sign something saying you won't divulge details of what was done to your car. Sort of an NDA but not quite.Just got off of the phone with Linda and I can confirm what the others are saying regarding the 3 options.
One thing that was mentioned to me that I might have missed on this site was that Kia would make some sort of "financial restitution" to those of us that keep/respray for the inconvenience. I think that bit is nice, but might also be a way of tamping any noise that this creates. Given the potential cost of this solution, I think that the possibility that they are willing to offer us anything in the way of cash is pretty generous. Undoubtedly, there are some here that feel otherwise and I am sure they will pipe in soon.
I will see what the letter says and hold my breath until that point. For now, the weekend is off to a better start.
Yep , you have to change your name and move house! LolOnce you agree to a repaint/trade-in/buyback, you will most likely have to sign something saying you won't divulge details of what was done to your car. Sort of an NDA but not quite.
I have an update. Talked to Linda and for a repaint you will also receive some sort of compensation for you trouble.
Agreed, Yellow represents such a small number of the total population. The yellow pole numbers are naturally lower. If you could see a percentile number, there are more problems per capita w/ yellow than any other.
Very interested to see if this is the case. Also interested if there will be some time frame to make a decision applied to this. Guess i better start shopping paint vendors now just in case.Once you agree to a repaint/trade-in/buyback, you will most likely have to sign something saying you won't divulge details of what was done to your car. I understand the apprehension, and agree the other color issues must be addressed.
They will take care of other colors on a case-by-case basis.
Remember that Yellow in the US is only 400 units total, some still unsold on the lot.

Hang in there, Kia is trying to do the right thing and that's a really good sign.
If you have an open case with KMA right now, I would continue to work with them. No reason to get upset or jump to conclusions just yet, they will likely take care of you.Exactly, Yellow is the smallest population so it's the easiest and least expensive for them to say something is officially wrong. I read an article a week or so ago about how 4-5K Stingers have been sold in the US since launch. Since Yellow is only 400 total, and it wasn't a "launch" color here, it's easy to determine how small the population of Yellow Stingers are that are actually being driven. Furthermore buyers of Yellow in the States know they have a "limited" model, and I would argue that people with "special" cars/options are more likely to research and pay attention to any issues they find, leading to the number of votes you see here in this thread (meaning its not necessarily because Yellow has more problems).
I'd also contend that, for the reasons I just mentioned, it is even more likely that Kia will continue to say it's only Yellow. Imagine the number of those 4-5K cars that are Blue/Black, colors that have been available here since launch, that could have issues? Kia isn't going to say anything that would jeopardize the already small amount of vehicles they've sold. For these reasons they likely will continue with other colors as a "case by case" basis, and that wouldn't bug me, IF they treated these cases the same way they've treated owners of Yellow Stingers; good communication and several options for resolution/coverage/whatever. And so far, that hasn't been the case, especially with me. Of course, I could just be the guy that got the one case manager that likes to repeatedly close someones case without followup or resolution.
Sorry, not mad at you personally (or anyone really), I guess I'm just venting cause I like this car too much (put 15K into it already), have had this issue for a while, and now that I'm leaning buyback I don't know what I would get in its place. I would buy another Stinger but if Kia refuses to acknowledge issues with other colors than any other color is playing Russian roulette.
If you have an open case with KMA (Kia Motors America) right now, I would continue to work with them. No reason to get upset or jump to conclusions just yet, they will likely take care of you.
I know you're wary of your local paint shops, would you consider Kia taking the car and shipping/getting it to a quality shop further away? I'm lucky to be in the NYC area where there's a lot of quality paint shops but I realize not everyone is near a big city.
Interesting, I didn't even know there was a website people were using.Who knows if I have an open case still. The only reason I've found out the last two times is because I've gone to the website to upload something and it tells me my case number is closed and I need to call to reopen it. I haven't had to upload anything in the past week and a half. I also wouldn't say I'm jumping to conclusions, my statements seem like deductive reasoning to me. They've had cases open here in the States for other colors before the Yellow ones, and evidence in this thread points at the various colors sharing the same underlying problem, but I digress.
Honestly, if I knew the repaint was going to be good, I'd be reimbursed for the work I've already put into it, the warranty would be up to snuff afterwards, and that any other issues caused by the repaint (from taking the car apart? I don't know) would also be covered, then yes, I wouldn't mind them taking it. Especially if they could get it done in a couple of weeks, instead of the months I've been quoted locally.
