Hi everyone, longtime reader! Thanks for the insigt you have provided here. I'd like to share my experience getting my hood repainted. My paint shop it very good, amazing reviews and they have state of the art spray booth. They have done very expensive M cars and luxury cars in the past so I feel confident with them doing my Stinger.
I got an update from them and they are not stripping the hood to the metal. They said the paint on the car is some of the thinnest paint they have seen, still high-quality paint but really really thin. They also told me the hood was sanded down in the past.which is weird because it's a new vehicle! They figure something went wrong a the factory and the hood had to be repainted at factory. Interesting! So they said in their opinion, the car doesnt need new primer, just repaint. They took the base down 80percent and are repainting and then adding new cleracoat. I meantioned this forum and they said what they assessed is what they think is the correct thing to do right now,but guarantee their work in case of future problems. The shop said i shoudn't be seeing anymore faulty chips on the hood.
Interesting stuff! So thin paint-base could be the problem?
