The votes/thread show we have a bigger problem. I will await official announcement.

Three more "no without protective coating" votes since yesterday (edit: and one more "no with protective coating"). I am keeping a daily track on this poll. My main interest is to see if/when a spike in participation occurs. Because it is my contention that the very small participation is the true indicator of how much trouble worldwide these paint issues are. Unless or until the poll receives a lot more participation (in the hundreds at the very least) I won't believe that the Stinger's paint is much of a problem on new cars. Later? That remains to be seen.

There was a guy on Facebook that posted he purchased a yellow two days ago. Said his dealer called up Kia and they said they could go ahead and sell it to him. So who really knows WTF is going on...lol

Shitty dealers will always be shitty. I don't even want to speculate what Kia is going to do...........:cautious:

There have been a few updates to my case since I last posted, so I'll try to summarize them.

After trying to reach the service department manager at the dealership that called me, for the last few days (6 calls and two voicemails on two numbers), I've sorta given up on them for the time being. However, I actually received a call from Kia Consumer Affairs (Jamie), so it was a nice surprise not having to be the one to reach out for an update. She asked if I had estimates on a repaint yet. Of course, this was basically the first I had heard this, since I haven't been able to talk to the guy at the dealership about whatever he wanted to talk about. I asked her if I could get them and she seemed to indicate I could (don't have to go through the dealership, though she didn't actually say this, it was implied). I also asked her about reimbursement for my paint protection, and she said while it wouldn't hurt to upload my invoice/receipt to my case, that she couldn't confirm if it would be approved, that it would reach the Kia USA rep I met in person and he would decide, since he is also deciding on the paint estimate.

Interestingly, I've had further contact with the aforementioned rep, he told me he's the one that wanted the dealership to reach out to me, and that they may have had a recommended paint shop. I also asked him about the paint protection and he said he couldn't authorize it and that Consumer Affairs could lol so maybe they're still working out the chain of command or something. I think at this point I'm going to get some estimates (for repainting the entire car, since they didn't say one way or the other) but still need a definitive answer on the paint protection, and go from there.

Now, if only I could get Kia to let me repaint it this color. I can dream, right?

That is my color too. :D I'm planning on a repaint in the (distant) future to "competition orange" for sure.

seems Singapore Kia stopped sales of Yellow and Micro blue too!

I bet that the contradictions going on are all about profit. It won't please anyone to have yellow and blue Stingers pulled and sent somewhere. It will be a lot more profitable to sell them with knowledge up front that there is a potential failure in the future. The customer decides to take the risk, with the paint guarantee in place to cover his butt, should he be one of the unlucky ones. S/he can return to Kia and make the claim; and Kia will pay for a respray. Much better to only deal with the cars that are returned, than ALL the blues and yellows en masse. And although the few failed ones will cost money to respray, the insurance companies will foot a lot of that bill. Profits all around. Case by case ...

Id go for a full respray of the SEMA ORANGE...Hell Yes. I may even eat the PPF cost at that point!

The McLaren M6A was when I first loved "tangerine" orange as my favorite racing color. That's what we Utah rube kids called it, anyway.

Don't suppose that you would know if any potential buyback would be world-wide? Also, where would I be able to find some information on the stop sale on the yellow?
It was a casual discussion nothing else. Sorry.cant help you there

I have black, I have about 7 chios on my hood, claim with Kia hq and had my dealership take pictures.

I have a lease if this does not get fixed will I be held accountable for the chips if I go to turn in the car?

Other colors, but mostly the 12 votes for black above, think otherwise! I sure hope everyone is resolved when this all comes out in the wash.

No problems with mine so far. 12/17 build date bought 3/20. Luckily for me I drive few miles, under 1400 still and garaged most days. Also has Ceramic Pro finish. Two very small rock chips so far. Inevitable in Phoenix.

One more yes vote (red) and two more no votes today. This pole is still only getting light traffic. That's a good indicator for Stingers generally.

Just found a chip under a headlight on the bumper. FML. Red GT2 here. It’s right on the seem of the PPF.

Now I think there're two different issues exists actually:
- flaking paint issue (mostly on Sunset Yellow and Micro Blue, some black)
- chips under headlights on the bumper

Second one may happen on any color and happens because headlights sitting too tight there and that could be not related to paint quality (which is not great anyway). That poll contains votes for both. So that a little positive moment, i.e. if you see issues on bumper, that doesn't mean your paint will fall apart :)

This is one of the main points, actually: because the poll does not clearly separate failed paint from damaged paint. A chip from failed paint is actually the paint flaking off for no inflicted reason. Damaged paint is from something hitting the car, or in this case the headlight assembly rubbing under pressure from temperature changes and vibration. Participants on the poll who vote yes are pissed off either way. But an unknown number of participant "yes" votes are not failed (flaking, chipping) paint.
