I have a Black 2.0 premium model. I have had it exactly two weeks and I am noticing a lot of paint chips on it. It started as one on the hood over the weekend and the dealer got a paint pen to touch it up. When I stopped by to get the paint pen, I started cleaning off the massive amounts of pollen and I notice a heck of a lot more. The dealer claims this is normal and I am noticing it more because of the black paint. Is anyone else having an issue? I am worried this is a bigger problem.

I haven't had any chip problems, but I don't follow gravel trucks, either. Keep the front clean, waxed and touch up every chip that appears. I like Automotive Touchup products.

Can you post a few pictures?

Man that really sucks. Sorry about that. This makes me REALLY want to get the xpel clear film applied. Are there equal amounts on the hood (metal) vs the bumper (plastic)? I’ve been wondering if the painted plastic parts are substandard based on other threads going on here.

I have NONE on the plastic which I pointed out to the dealer. All the chips are on the metal and some are in crazy places. I go in Wednesday to discuss again but we might be having a long discussion.

Wow. Good luck. Have a 2017 sportage (wife) with 14,000 miles and no chips. Have the dealer prove that there is the proper thickness of paint present. There is a simple gauge they use. Worked for me once and I got a Honda dealer to repaint a civic hood that had bad paint.

Yes you do have on the plastic in the first photo here -

Also I don't understand why it shows at all as the base plastic is black and should not be noticeable. All my chips are on the plastic below the grille very low but the white paint flies off leaving black plastic.

This is interesting since I’ve seen other comments, some on this forum, that the general opinion of paint protection experts is that Kia used some very good paint on these vehicles. Of course, what was done underneath where it counts for adhesion is another question.

Something is wrong with the paint. I have been with KIA over 10 years and their older cars used to intermittently have this issue.

Sorry to see this. That my friend is not normal for any new vehicle and warrants a serious follow up.

I've had a few chips on my front end, too. Micro blue. Had to use the touch-up pen a few times now. However, I am driving on highways in and out of Manhattan everyday so I just chalk it up to that, I guess.
