So I have signed a lot of the papers but have not actually paid for my '18 Micro Blue Stinger GT2 AWD yet... tomorrow I'm supposed to sign the check. I didn't know about the paint issue until just now and when I walked around the car yesterday I did not see any chipped paint but didn't know this was an issue so didn't look too closely.

What happens if I buy this used (2500 miles) Stinger and it has paint problems? From quickly browsing this immense thread it looks like if you pester Kia enough you've gotten your cars repainted or protected, but will this coverage extend to a used car?

My wife barely was okay with this in the first place, if there's no solution there's no way I'm going to live it down.

There aren’t really any absolute answers for you. There have been some blue models with problems reported, but I wouldn’t say it’s been rampant. I’ve had my blue GT for a year, have 10K miles, and haven’t had any issues. Kia has only provided blanket relief for yellow cars, however there have been instances where people with other colors were made right.

Our blue GT has 4-5 chips on the hood, but it could be from highway driving in winter here in PA where there's lots of cinders on the road. I bought the $10 paint pen and will make it look better down the road. We have 7000mi so far. I'm taking pictures of the chips before I paint. Our other cars got some chips this winter as well so I can't hold kia to blame just yet

I dont mind paint issues as long as Kia is willing to rectify the situation if it comes up - just concerned there will be problems and I get stuck unable to get them fixed. I'll have to decide in the next 18 hours what I want to do and either let my dreams for a fun sports car die for several more years (Stinger is the only one in was interested in) or bite the bullet and hope I dont have to pay a few thousand in repairs/repaint/3M/etc.

What you do is go over the entire car with a minute inspection in broad daylight. Look for the driver's side headlight assembly chip under the forward, lower corner; check the passenger side too. At 2.5K miles, there could easily be some road damage in front: look especially carefully there, and don't confuse real road damage for paint adhesion issues: look for those on the less impacted areas, and check under the license plate and make sure the rear panel the license plate attaches to doesn't have a crack in it. Look along the rear of the hood edge, and the forward edge of the hatch: check all the edges of the doors. Look very carefully for pinhead sized holes or tiny bubbles in the clearcoat.

If, after all that, you can't see any real evidence of a paint adhesion issue, then your car is almost 100% certain to be fine. Something could manifest down the road; none of us know the future. But I've been reading this thread from the beginning, and the poll shows that a small percentage of vehicles have paint quality issues. If you find some imperfections, share these at once with the dealer and get satisfaction or don't buy this individual car. There are plenty of other Stingers: no reason to settle for one that has any problems. Good fortune to you!

I would think this should be covered under the 3 year 36,000 mile paint warranty...

Paint quality issues admitted by Kia are definitely covered under the 36 month paint warranty. Anything that Kia deems as attrition/wear will not be covered. Taking pictures is always the first step to documentation and what Kia Corp goes by when they pass judgment.

Built 2019 has a better one Primer says Kia. I hope it's true.

Hi All - My sister's husband has a Ford Focus RS bought last year, manufacturered in 2017 experiencing the exact same issues like our Stingers, chips very easily, he has under 4K miles on it and showed me several chips. Colour of the car is Red, go figure! The RS forum mentions the same issues as our Stingers.

He thinks that recently due to environmentalists the paints have changed - not sure how true this is but I honestly believe it has something to do with certain of the colours pigments, Red, Blue, Black. The year 2017 seems to be common, it made me think a little...

Mine is a 2019 GT2 and the paint so far is flawless, ceramic coated it and looks and feels like a babies butocks.

mine is DCP 2018 and I have had it for almost 1.5years, I would say the number of chips and fade in my front bumper is equal to a heavily used 7+year plus car. The dealer is telling me its from my driving and not the paint. Very disappointed in Kia not doing something on this, at least inform the dealers to raise these matters with HQ for them to decide if you do not want to issue an official recall, I am not the type that will battle or escalate things and not everybody is.
