The issues at the hatch are not from transport. Please ignore @MerlintheMad - he just loves his car too much!

I can tell you that EVERY SINGLE stinger i saw on the lot (all 25 of them) had some level of paint missing from the front of the hatch edge. 2018 2019.. didn't matter.

But it is an easy fix if you want to avoid KIA completely. Just run a paint pen over the edge... a couple coats and it is gone.

I'll have to look again, the only paint I found missing on mine was under a headlight, but it was so far under it's invisible unless you're looking under the headlight.

It will be impossible to see on white... since the primer is light in color. You can run your finger down that front edge of the hatch and see if it is rough.

Ok so I was quoted 1500 plus tax for the full front end XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS- my only dilemma now is the car is at 250KM - should I do it now or wait to see if I have any paint issues? I now Merlin suggested I do it right away and I'm tempted to ... however if I do this and then I start seeing flaking in other areas I won't be very happy.. so far the paint looks good to me, there is one spot with a pin hole (or less) where it looks like the paint might be the issue but it's so minor.... it's on the driver's door... i did not see anything else, the paint looks pretty darn good - I don't know if it's too early to tell or if ya'll are too picky with some of the stuff being reported... no offense to anyone ...

I got a full front clear bra shortly after seeing issues. Despite other areas of the car getting worse, a year on, the DPSM for my area said my bra/paint protection was part of the problem. Assuming you have to file a claim down the line, you'll just have to hope you don't have an idiot for a DPSM. Granted you're in Canada, no idea how it works up there, but down here in the o'l US of A each state/region is different so people have had widely different interactions with Kia America/Corporate.

If the paint protection gives you peace of mind as it did me (that the car wouldn't look worse in the areas covered) then just do it. But you have no guarantee that if you have to file a claim in the future if you'd get that reimbursed or if it'll be held against you.

EDIT: If you really did read through the entire thread I'm not sure how you could say some of us have been too picky. Some of us had tons of spots all over the car just after buying/driving it. I think the pictures are pretty self explanatory. If you're confident in the paint and have already been driving it without issue then you might be good *shrug* for everyone else, I agree with the other poster, just avoid 2017's, mine is October 2017 and one of the worst, that's your best chance. 2019's have more (standard) features/better value anyways.

It's almost as if the sweet spot would be to wait a little longer but how long I don't know... 1000KM? 3000KM? not sure... also we can all be as picky as we want but all I'm saying, the pin hole paint issues seem really minor to me... the concern is though if they get bigger and turn into the pencil eraser size then those I can see as totally unacceptable.

Yes, in fact that's exactly how I described them back in February, the size of a pencil eraser head. Paint Quality (note that I posted pictures in this thread however)

Other than the quality the paint also just seems to have been applied poorly/unevenly to me. But we've hashed that to death already, so I won't go into it any more. Good luck with your Stinger and whatever you decide to do, not sure there is anything else I can add.

Perhaps the thread noted below proves out Merlins' belief that fewer are affected than is thought because of this "sky is falling" thread? A whole lot of "no issues so far" posts. Personally I have a Dec17 build date with absolutely no paint issues.

My Stinger Build Date Is ?
I think that if that thread gets a lot of posts it will prove the point. The great majority of responses will either be extremely minor stuff, corrected easily, or no problems at all.

Lol. You say that like something bad. Hah.

I wasn't looking for a hatch edge flake/chip on any of the three occasions that I checked out over two dozen total 2018 and 2019 Stingers at Jerry Seiner; so it is possible that I simply did not see any. I will return in the near future and specifically search for hatch edge flaking. I find it astounding that ALL of the Stingers you have inspected have some amount of this flaw; and yet I didn't even see a single case.

Black takes the "lead"; 33 to 32 over Blue and Yellow ...

That seems a bit pricey to me. I got my full frontage 3M for under a thousand. But no matter.

It seems to me that a careful inspection of any color but Yellow is good enough reassurance that big troubles down the line are very unlikely. Especially a MY19 (only one report so far of paint issues on this forum). I would go with protecting the front, and wait on the rest. That's just me. If the unprotected areas started to fail, Kia isn't going to say you did something to cause it by protecting the front! So far, the only kind of paint failures involved paint actually coming off, not bubbling up first and then detaching. So I am thinking that any covered areas are going to be "sealed in" by the PPF if there is any chipping problem. @IBurton and the few other members with yooge issues have given me that impression. The only time you'd have trouble with your paint would be five, ten years down the road if your PPF was looking tatty and needed removing: then any spots of detaching paint would come up with the PPF. Is it even likely that you'd still have the Stinger then?

I think XPEL might be a little more, it's also in CAD dollars so it will be more vs the USD. I'm thinking of going for it, the full front coverage with XPEL Ultimate Plus. By the way, I went to inspect another Stinger I was looking at, a black one, and I did not see any paint issues, not even near the headlights - a 2018 unknown build date but suspecting early 2018.

Hello again - I have another question and not sure it's the appropriate thread but if we get a chip on the fake hood vents or the chrome mirrors or side deflectors how do you touch those up? I imagine the paint pen only comes with the one primary color of your car plus the clear coat, correct?

All of them.. it was odd. It isn't flaking paint, it looks like there was oil on the surface and the paint stuck in certain areas. Easy fix really though with a pen. :)

Hi,

I've been a long time lurker on this thread (Since July 2018). I bought and received a Black 2018 Kia Stinger GT Limited in Toronto, Canada in June. Within the first week of taking the delivery, my car received its first few paint chips on the rear side door and front of the vehicle (on top of having a consistent rattle issue on my sunroof). I submitted a case for the issue and was told to bring in my Stinger to the dealership. Upon bringing it in, it was inspected by a Kia inspector from the head office and I was told I would later be contacted in regards to it. Fast forward to the present and I never was contacted by Kia about it. I kept my mouth shut about the issue because it was initially only a few chips at the time. I gave Kia the benefit of the doubt and attributed the chips to rocks or other debris. Turns out that isn't the case, after washing my car on Saturday. I noticed a ridiculous amount of chips on the paint ranging from small to large chips. To top it all off, there appeared to bubbling under the paint on the front of the car. I called Kia yesterday and was told to bring it in for an inspection on Wednesday to see if it qualifies for a warranty claim.

The whole situation is very frustrating considering how much patience I've shown. I'm just worried that nothing will be done or they may chalk it up to just respraying one part of the of the vehicle. All things considered, I'm just not okay with the idea of my car being taken apart and resprayed whether it's a single piece or the whole car. The Stinger cost a lot of money and no one expects to have these kind of issues with a new car. I'm really hoping for a buy back option to be available to me, but based on what I'm seeing in this forum, it's not looking very likely.

This whole situation is very disappointing..

ya got any pic? I just bought one too, last weekend, OK so far except a couple of needle pin point issues...

I will go look at my hatch. Are you saying the hatch itself? The edge nearest the roofline or nearest the license plate?

Welcome, Kevin.

Sad story! "Bubbling" under the paint; right after I said today that I hadn't heard of any bubbles pushing the paint up (that would totally ruin a PPF job). :( It's no consolation to hear me say that only a few Stingers have paint adhesion issues. I've said it so many times it is really old. But it's true, nevertheless. Doesn't solve an individual case whatsoever. The only solution, if you keep the car, is to appeal to Kia strongly. Your patience must end after this long to determine that your Black is indeed one of the afflicted (it has taken over on the pole as "number one" ). Use this poll in your appeal. Talk to different people at Kia. They might work a trade for a different Stinger, you never know. Case by case customer satisfaction can arrive at different solutions. No one policy governs all cases. Stay in touch here. I/we care a lot, for what that's worth.

He went to a dealership a few months ago and said that half of the cars had peeling underneath the headlights. He then proclaimed that the issue was a non issue and was being overblown. I would be more diligent before citing him as credible.
