Extremely frustrated trying to keep the paint looking new. We just purchased GT2 AWD - Black on 8/8/2018. Every time I turn around I see another scratch, chip, swirl mark. I park in a covered spot at work and she is garaged at home. I get paint scratches just from the stupid birds at the office landing on the car. I don't think that is "normal". We don't take it through car washes, it has been hand washed since day one. Not sure where those swirl marks are coming from. Not to mention the blacked chrome trim pieces are impossible to keep spot free. In fact I had to park the car outside yesterday and the sprinklers hit it leaving hard water spots that won't come out. Now I have to spend $175 to have it professionally detailed. There really seems to be something wrong on the paint front. I've had a black car before (2001 BMW 540i) and I did NOT have this many paint problems. If Kia wants to play on the performance touring playground, they need to figure out how to fix this problem. I am sure they don't want these flagship cars looking like crap sitting in parking lots. Not exactly a selling point.

Detail spray with micro fiber on black chrome trim. For the stubborn ones, a quick hit with the clay bar will do the trick. I live in AZ and we too have EXTREMELY hard water...same thing happened to me...sprinkler while driving and spotted before i could get to it.

How much money did they offer you? You never said, and you're also the only person I've seen on here (or anywhere) that has had a paint issue and they haven't given you a respray. Yeah, a lot of people had gone through a ton of hoops to get it done, but so far it's just you that seems to be having this level of difficulty. Even cars with paint issues that aren't yellow have been getting resprays. I feel for you, I really do, but your case aside they've done more for people than many manufacturers do. Mercedes did offer a respray on a lot of their cars with paint issues, what they didn't do is offer them a dime back for the trouble. I'm definitely not trying to say that the paint issues aren't a big deal, I'm just saying it's a heck of a lot more common than some people on here seem to think.

I don't know, because every time I've ever had a communication with anyone from Kia, it takes them weeks or longer to get back to me. Thats the reason, along with someone leaving in the middle of my case, being transferred to half a dozen people, and having to visit multiple dealerships several times, that I'm at this point from all the way back in February when I first made them aware of this. I couldn't make up a more perfect shit show. The length of time they took is the exact reason they're saying there isn't an issue now.

Was I supposed to stop driving the car for a year after this all happened right after I bought it?? I went with the only option I had which was to get paint protection to keep it from looking worse than it already was, and now the new DPSM used that against me too (even with new non-road related chips on other parts of the car I didn't' have covered). I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt every time something delayed my case, but in the end I got played the fool.

I try to vote with my wallet, and every payment pisses me off now. But every time I drive the car, for what it is, I really enjoy it. Then I look down at the steering wheel and see that Kia badge

Last option is to explore legal recourse for a warranty non-conformity. I WAS hopeful they were using the yellow ones as a precursor to the remainder colors but as times goes on i no longer believe this to be the case. I am fortunate (for lack of better term) to have had a yellow with Kia honoring the repurchase. I did meet up with @MattRain here in PHX, whose Micro Blue exhibited the exact same, arguable worse, damage to that of my yellow on the paint and he is getting nothing but the runaround.

I will keep my fingers crossed that Kia will come around in the end for the other colors.

I might know a lawyer that might be interested.... If asked nicely, I might share this information.

No joke about it taking weeks to respond.

New update for me. After waiting a week from when they took the pictures at the body shop I gave the service manager a call and got another "we should be getting back to you in a week", I even told him email contact would be fine doesnt have to be a phone call because I had a work trip and dont know how service was going to be/if I would have time to talk when he called. Well I was on that work trip for 2 weeks and not a word(mind you I was suppose to hear back by the 19th). So I called them after I got back from my trip. Some what good news? I guess the service manager and the Regonal rep had time to look at the pictures together and now that there is another stinger with the same problem also they are going to do something. Bad news, he couldnt tell me then I would be getting a call from him and the Rep some time by the end of next week to discuss it....... Whats with all these "within a week" BS. Either way coincidence I got a call the next day from Kia customer service about the survey I filled out for the support I have been getting. Told him not resolved yet, he called the service manager and the next day I got a call from the customer service rep basically telling me the same thing the service manager did. "they will call you with a solution" and then my phone cut out(bad service in the office).

So at least this is documented on Kia's customer service end. The saga continues........

This company (well its sister company, Hyundai) has been down this road before. Ask me how I heard about this someday.

The main reason that this below action was pitched was because the plaintiffs waited so long to file.

Just sayin'. Google is your buddy sometimes.
So, if you join a class action suit, make sure that you document your paint issues as within the warranty period: and be prepared to show that Kia KNEW they were selling bad paint jobs. And do this in a timely manner; not years after the fact. Most of those fifteen plaintiffs were waaay out of warranty period.

I don't see how any class action suit stands a chance in hell over paint issues, period. Suck it up and move on. If you love the car otherwise, enough to keep it, then get what you can out of Kia under warranty and foot the bill yourself. Don't carp and moan about not cutting a cheque from Kia because you're not a Sunset Yellow. I already plan to repaint mine, probably sooner rather than later; and I don't even have failing or faulty paint.

(This would be years down the road, most likely, but you never know: I might even wrap it instead, just because I still fantasize driving Competition Orange, and a wrap looks like the easiest way to change the color; the least invasive and far more affordable, etc..)

Congratulations, you have the spine of a jellyfish. No wonder why manufacturers feel empowered to f*ck over customers. They expect them to roll over and just get their new cars repainted themselves.

It's only PAINT. Only a class action has any chance of winning recompense. An individual has no voice; it costs too much to be worth it. You vote with your feet, and the countless defections bring the company down if they don't change their attitude/policy. Social Medía is the new grassroots movement weapon: any company that ignores public opinion is dooming themselves.

There is every difference between being "spineless" and realistic.

Micro blue joining the repaint club. Everyone should check edge of hatch at roof line. Just noticed last week paint is completely gone on the edge down to metal. Kia said they have to pull hatch off repaint it the repaint entire roof to match. Also they are replacing the black crome moldings on top edge of both sides of car. 11 months old already discoloring badly.

My dealership service rep is unhappy with the way their body and paint shop did the work. She sees things I don't, but what I do see is that the molding doesn't have nearly as many sparkly-pearly bits as the rest of the paint on the car, and is maybe a little creamier white. By the time she came to the lounge to tell me, she'd already ordered a new ditch molding, which apparently comes painted, and said she would call me when it arrives, probably later this week. I had suspected all along that this was the best way to repair this, so I wasn't entirely surprised.
Update: Finally a chance to take a shot of my "repair." Note ripples/bubbles and color difference. Didn't hear from the dealership rep about a replacement part coming in on Thursday, as expected, nor Friday nor Saturday, when in any case I was busy, but I did hear from the rep on the escalation team, who emailed me Friday to see if this was progressing. I'll be contacting the dealer's service rep Monday.

EDIT: Just checked my messages on my other phone number (the one I told the dealer rep I don't check regularly, so not to call it) and so of course there was a message there: the part was backordered and may come in Monday.

Those pieces pop right out and come already painted they won’t just replace those pieces for you. I had same problem on my optima with those pieces.

This is exactly what I thought, that they pop out, and according to the phone message I received (see my edit to my post) they indeed are just replacing it. I guess it's easier than getting an adequate paint job from their shop.

Not acceptable at all they should be ashamed of themselves

Guys stop being babies. "It's only PAINT". Sure some of you poor bastards up north may have a little rusting here and there less than a year into ownership, but thats just par for the course of new car ownership! You should be ponying up and repainting your car yourself after a few solid months of ownership anyway, whiner!

@forzanerazzurri so go for it: hire a lawyer and sue the bastards. Join a class action that is too late, sue the bastards, and lose. Might as well keep your car looking like crap the whole time, too, so that you can point to what a crappy paint job you are suing over. That'll make you feel better waking up each morning for months/years going forward.

As I said, if you love the car but got stiffed with a poor paint job, then a repaint is the only option: get everything out of Kia that you possibly can (or are willing to hassle for), and make your car as perfect as possible. Turn your lemons into lemonade and create a totally unique Stinger; wrap it, maybe. The options are almost endless and the results are amazing; and, done by the right sort of pros, are warrantied far longer than a Kia paint job. And also, if done right, will maintain or even increase the resale value of the car. (If the plan is to keep the car for many years, this is a pointless factor.)
