This paint issue is 100% Kia's fault, and on their "halo" car no less. Regardless of how well built or how good their other models are, this will become a stain on their reputation and they'll never fully break free of "just a Kia" if they don't absolutely nail this car.
I absolutely agree with this assessment.

I do believe that Kia rectifies all such flaws in their system as best they can, as soon as they are known.

This is absolutely true of any reputable manufacturer. Part of the quality program requires the use of corrective and preventative action upon systemic non-compliance or customer complaint. Since there are a multitude of customers with a paint issue, I would think Kia would have performed a root cause analysis and subsequently fixed the process. If the process is not fixed, they need to re-evaluate and implement a new solution. The licenses that Kia holds (ISO being one) dictates this being a requirement.

I think they have fixed known issues. This latest discussion is from a Feb MY18, so probably built during the thick of the flack and flap over paint. We haven't heard of anything from any builds later than June MY18. *Crossing my fingers*

For those of you who have had repaints of any kind and had a rental in the mean time, did Kia lend those to you or did you pay for them? I'm mostly curious about non-yellow.

Well mine was yellow but yes, the dealership had an on-site Enterprise rep so I got a Ford Fusion Hybrid for a little over a month at Kia's expense.

The two times I've have my car in I've gotten an on-site rental from Budget. Unfortunately both times I have gotten a base model Sportage. I've named them Humble Pie because it's really humbling stepping down to something with nothing for options. The only things I could find above base is AWD, the tiny touch screen and heated seats. That's literally everything. It even has a key you have to put into the ignition.

I did own a 2012 Sportage Turbo a few years back, and I must say the base model is a real step down.

Got my blue GT2 back today after a 3 week repaint. Looks amazing.
Kia picked up the tab for my lime green fiesta rental. Good to be back in the Stinger!
Now i have to avoid chips for 60 days until PPF can be applied.
New paint job has life time warranty from the body shop.

Oh dam I'm sorry....... I thought I had it bad with a turd base model 2018 Altima........ It is probably the most underwhelming, uncomfortable, boring ass car I have ever had the displeasure of driving. I've went on some sneak test drives of Stingers just so I could keep remembering what I have to look forward too. I was turning into a 'normal monotonous everyman driver'......... THE HORROR!!!!!:eek::eek::eek:

@Tonkabob I have to say she looks like a beauty!!!! Can you tell a big difference from the previous fiasco to the new paint job?

This was my first paint. Kia's paint job was a fiasco with my 100 or so chips. I did have a kia forte for a day as a rental but upgraded to the fiesta. That forte was really bad.

From what I'm hearing I certainly won't be provided a rental on Kia (I'm expected to pay for one), and won't have all of the parts repainted on my Stinger, and neither will I be reimbursed for the paint protection already on the car. Need clarification on the last part though.

@Tonkabob Glad you finally got yours sorted, looks good.

@Luminary Your 'original' Micro Blue? What happened to it? lol if you don't mind me asking. Or am I reading too much into that

Sounds like a whole lot of BS to me. Maybe you shouldn't pay for it for a month.

I traded in the Premium due to major paint issues (even after the repaint - sorry, I am not trying to scare any one) and got a Micro Blue GT2. Though I am in a non-disclosure agreement and cannot say much, I can say KIA took care of me in the end.

My original thread with the horrible repaint pictures can be found here: So I am dropping my Stinger off for Repaint...

Also as a side note, my Premium was a Nov 2017 Build date, and my GT2 is a Dec 2017 Build date and I have not found a single paint issue (outside of the tiny headlight rub I knew was there) with the GT2. I did get her Ceramic Coated, but the paint on this one is perfect so far at 3000 miles. Night and day difference between the two.

@Luminary wow, that's great, glad you got taken care of.

I guess that confirms Kia is willing to give some non-yellow owners options akin to those that yellow have gotten. Though I suppose that also means they just really don't like me or don't care to keep me as a customer? At this point this will be my first and last Kia, now it's just a matter of what I say to people when they ask me about my car.

After asking repeatedly I've never gotten a firm answer about my case in regards to whether or not they think there's even a problem. Can't understand how they can look at all those pictures and the car itself and not decide something more needs to be done.

My case seems to be winding down with what Kia is willing to do (which at this point has been nothing but eat tons of my time), as the only option presented to me seems radically different than everyone else. I'm still trying to get some final clarification and I'll be sure to return whenever that happens.

What does everyone think of a new thread created strictly for paint issue PICTURES. No discussion, no banter, only pictures of real paint issues including peeling, edge peeling, and lack of adhesion rock chips (not regular rock chips). Building a thread library of just pictures of paint issue may light a fire. There is too much discussion here, we could have a thread of visual evidence only to use as leverage?

My case may be different in that my Premium was my 7th KIA, making the GT2 my 8th. They did take my loyalty into consideration during my case.

I've been listening to your story for months now. It does seem inconceivable how anyone could look at paint failure where no road damage is possible and say the warranty is not in effect. Your case is also uniquely bad for communication breakdown. So it seems to me from where I sit.

Whelp, I didn’t think it would happen to me...

Red GT2 AWD and the hood looks terrible. I noticed it today when I was washing my car. I called the Kia premium support and they (Valerie) told me over the phone that they knew about the issue . I then called my dealership and they set up an appointment for me on Thursday. I am going to push for them to put on some sort of film or atleast help me pay for one. It’s insane that a 52k Halo car needs its paint redone. On top of all this my HUD housing rattles, and it’s really bad between 15-30mph for some reason.

what's your build date? It's insane but all too common place these days, Tesla is having all kinds of paint issues as well. You can find numerous problems with even the German manufacturers. Too much cost cutting I guess. I'm "ok" with Kia's paint problem as long as they take ownership and take care of the cars affected.
