Dilemma: AWD or RWD GT2? Help

I am in the AWD camp, this is what i bought.
i had a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR (mitsubishi racing) and it was AWD and sure footed and fun as hell.
Look at other high performance cars like Nissan GTR is AWD as well.

If I was living in the SFO area I would have an AWD as well. Never know when you might want to go to the mountains in the winter. But that's my only reason.

Actually i have a 4runner (4WD) for going to the sand or snow.
i just like the sure footed-ness of the AWD both in the dry and rain.
I don't drift or race, etc. and i like AWD cars.

I would get RWD because it's faster (you know, for bragging rights) and you won't see snow/ice.

If you give the car to a family member back east they can just foot the bill for a good set of snow tires.

EXACTLY ! :) Wash

If 'driving dynamics' are the most important factor, the RWD is likely your best choice. It gives that 'sports car feel' that a lot of enthusiasts talk about. For 'performance', the RWD is also slightly faster than the AWD, reportedly - but the difference is minuscule.

RWD is generally cheaper, even with the Stinger AWD $1000 discount that should be available to you. Most dealers in my area tacked it on from the start when advertising their prices. I am not up to date on the Lease cash (I purchased), but if you're getting $2k rebate for the AWD over a RWD, then you're nearly breaking even there. If the $2k AWD Lease cash you mention is in ADDITION to the $1k AWD discount, then you'd actually be coming out ahead.

In my neck of the woods, inclement weather is a regular part of life, so the choice was obvious for me. In fact, while shopping, I didn't see a single RWD vehicle available in my area. I was not buying a sports car, so the RWD 'fun factor' was irrelevant to me anyway.

Your best bet? Test drive both. That will give you the 'feel' for each one. Heck, go to multiple dealers and test drive both if you can multiple times. It's a solid investment, but one that deserves all the research you're willing to do. :)

Just my 2 coppers,

I also live in Socal, drove both the awd and rwd when buying, drove them hard. First it hardly rains, even less snow unless your in the mountians. I got the rwd gt1, my reasons are simply, its lighter, its quicker(stock form at least) I didn't want to replace my brake pads as often, (since it use the brakes to control wheel spin) cheaper and honestly I love the driving dynamics of it all. I will admit that although I truly love how well the rwd handles at high speeds without the lsd, the awd did handle better in sharp turns. But at the end of it all I just couldnt pass up on the "true sport car" feel i got from the rwd. Make sure you drive them both one after the other and drive them hard so you can make a more informed decision. Either way you wont be disappointed.

To the OP, when you test drive them back to back, be sure to check them out in sport mode. Comfort mode is default, so you'll have to switch into sport every time. Just an FYI.

I will not own another vehicle that does not have AWD. I have lived in Nevada and now in Florida. AWD is a phenomenal feature for driving safely in wet conditions or on slick road surfaces. Whether sand covered roads from heavy winds or flat roads that don't drain water quickly, I have not had any issues with traction or control. I have had AWD on my AMG, Model S, MKX, XC90 and now the Stinger.

OK guys, I've lived in Florida over 40 years coming from Michigan. Have had a couple of AWD's that I didn't need and have never needed or noticed, or missed having AWD on the other 20+ cars. But, I believe AWD is superior to just RWD. Just about every car review I have read, the difference in MPG between the two is 1 mpg. As for the Stinger, I believe the published MPG is very conservative.

Since I dony want the OP to get lost in all this rwd/awd back and forth, ive gotta advise you OP that the rwd does not come with the lsd on all trims, for example my gt1 does not have it. Btw the awd system in this specific vehicle was designed with performance in mind, not in its stock form at least which is why it doesnt launch like a gtr would, just something to think about.

This thread is only in regards to the GT2, it's in the title, so this isn't a concern for OP

I split the debate posts out to a separate thread here

If you have an answer specifically directed to the OP, feel free to post here.

I do - there is no negative to having AWD. In any conditions, it is easier to use the capabilities of the vehicle. Unless there is a significant price difference, there are very few situations where RWD would be preferred (as you have probably seen in the discussion I just pulled out of your original thread.)
