Dents, Dings, and Scratches Thread

Do I win the cookie so far?

Two weeks into my ownership somebody ran into the back of my car and left.
Sonofabitch!!! That's pretty early grief alright. But I'm pretty sure somebody else on here has you beat. I always ask this: where were you parked? HOW were you parked?? Please respond. It is instructional (and possibly cathartic). Thanks! ...
It was only plastic. A little rubbing alcohol and some wax and it removed most of it. I don't really notice it anymore to be honest.
I thought I'd seen this before. When was the first time you posted this grievance?
And he's very good at it. Not to mention his second to nun push-pin skills.
Lol. Nun. Pun(ny). "Second to nun".

I asked https://www.drcolorchip.com about paint kits for our car specifically Snow White Pearl for me and they added it to their site but have a disclaimer. I tried the OEM pen on a chip and the OEM pen is crap a Sharpie would of done a better job.

Here is their disclaimer for Snow White Pearl

This is a tri-coat pearl / 3-stage color, meaning it was painted with a base coat, pearl coat and tinted clear coat. There is not a single color formula that exactly matches. However, the paint you receive should allow for a very close color match and yield far better results than using regular touch-up paint.

I'm seeing this a lot lately, or did you also say this on another thread? The OE touchup pens are of two types (I have both). One is a fiber wedge tip, that you can either apply dabbing along the edge or a corner/point. This is of limited utility. The better one has a very small tip (c. the size of a Uni-ball Micro Point), it's hollow and paint "oozes" out of it for really small repairs. The main tool is the brush. I bet that you used the fiber (wedge) type, and understand if you feel it is crap.

Yes, I posted about this in another thread. Also yes it's that wedge thing. The paint comes out really watery even after I shook the dang thing for like 10 minutes. It's impossible to use it on a chip to fill it in and the color seems off as well. Also, it states it dries in 15 minutes. After 2 hours it still smudged off. I confirmed the dealership gave me the right thing, paint on one end clearcoat on the other. It was cheap like less then $20 so I guess I got what I paid for LOL I'm going to see if the Dr. Color Chip product that was recommended to me in another thread works better.

It's a small chip but I know it's there and it bothers me.

I totally understand!
That "wedge" pen you describe doesn't behave that way for me. I wonder if yours is compromised somehow. Don't know what could cause that: when paint doesn't work it's almost always because it gets too thick. Yours is too thin!? I suppose it is possible (but it couldn't be old after only a couple of years) that the carrier part is not mixing with the pigment, i.e. the pigment has hardened at the end of the paint reservoir. Shaking the pen for anything more than a solid minute should be unnecessary. And if it is watery, then the pigment isn't rising up; it is laying down!

I've got a 2012 Optima in SWP. The paint has held up fantastically as compared to my 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX in Sedona Red Pearl. The paint on that would chip when you sneezed and I literally had hundreds of chips on the hood and leading panel edges. Dr. Color Chip made them all disappear. I only recently used some on my Optima (maybe a dozen spots total) and the vast majority of them are invisible, even if looking closely. There was one larger chip that is only slightly visible, but I suspect that is mostly because I need to fill it in with a second coat and then smooth it out again. From a moderate distance, you cannot tell that it has been repaired. Many car dealerships use this system to touch up new cars as needed. I've found that the results are typically much better than normal factory touch-up pens. It really is a slick process.

Ok you confused/tricked me. I thought from the pictures above you re painted the white diffuser black. Which would have been quick after the Monday install. I am clearly over here in left field all alone.

Just a little tidbit - not sure if this is public or not yet. When it comes time to replace your windshield wiper blades don't pull the wipers up or you will scrape your paint on the hood. You literally need to turn your car off while the wipers are wiping the windshield so they stay in the up position to change the wiper blades.

Figured I'd try to make owners aware since our showroom model got scratched this way.
If only I had seem this about a month ago in an attempt to be thorough. Well I was thorough, thoroughly disappointed with myself! Got about an inch long scrape on the driver's said to remind me everyday.

get a piece of gloss black 3m auto vinyl and cut it to size and wrap the edge at the contact point , do it on both side for symetry .......................you'll never notice it again

PPF wrapped all the way around the edge does the trick better, because you don't see it. Once the damage is done, touch it up first. The touch up pens work best here. An edge isn't hard to touch up. And then the PPF over it finishes the job.

How does Kia make so big of an oversight that the damn windshield wipers scratch the hood paint when you pull them up in dormant position? This is ridiculous! I picked my car up form SkyPark yesterday at SFO airport and I have scratches in both those spots. Don’t know if I should go after Kia or SkyPark, this is literally asinine.
