I had a dealership install a dual catch can setup on Wed. I have posted about this svc manager, a "car guy" to the core, something I don't think is really prevalent in that job.

I any event I had, now only one LS series cars made in Australia by GM, now only the G8GT. I've charged dead batteries and topped off batteries off of connections under the hood. Have been doing this for 13 yrs w/o any hint of a problem.

I have a 2022 Stinger GT1 and the owner's manual says to charge the battery outside of the car. The service manager said they charge cars all the time using the terminals on the battery itself, they don't remove the battery except under unusual circumstances. Don

Sorry, what do you mean about "Part out"? Don
It's a joke, he's suggesting the car's a total loss based on your description. And I agree.

I don't see why you need to remove the battery except as an extra safety measure and/or to ensure 100% there's no draw on it from car's electronics. I believe there's terminals under the front hood to connect as well, don't have to go direct to the battery in the trunk.

Found this on google in about 4.6 seconds. Strangely, that's about how fast the Stinger does 0-60.

Been tending the battery all winter using the underhood terminals. Garage is detached.

I think for a completely dead battery, it does make sense to remove it. But to maintain, I see no reason to. For the former, the battery may give off hazardous (or flammable) gases, so makes sense not to have a concentrate of such in an enclosed area.

The battery is vented to outside!

I suppose there are 3 different battery confugurations around the world for our Stingers

CMF (closed maintenance free)
MF (maintenance free)
AGM (absorbent glass mat)

The AGM battery on my Canadian Stinger is vented to the outside of the car through an air vent tube.

<confused> AGM is usually a sealed unit. I had multiple agm batteries in my bikes, some mounted at 90 deg to horizontal. None had vent tubes.

Is the vent mainly there in case internal pressure gets too high maybe?

Car's a total loss, silly comment in the extreme unless I'm missing out on some insider joke. And why would you agree Stoopid?

I'm not posing as an authority, just commenting on what a "car guy" service manager says and what the practice is in his service department. Don

Here is mine hardwired. I hate opening and closing the hood just to charge.

My guess is that it's there just in case gases need to escape. Is probably closed until pressure reaches a certain point.

It's all in good fun. We try to have some fun around here. You are welcome to poke back anytime.

I don't mind being poked at in jest, just didn't know where it was going.

Have a good weekend. Don

It's Cowboy's favorite one liner, "Part out". I think that c. half his posts are that one. :P

I get sucked in on things on the internet that are intended to be sarcasm or humor that I don't catch. Things that are completely obvious in a face to face conversation. Don

My only advice is to (at least initially) not care what others think or put any emotional stock in anyone's posts / replies. Camaraderie develops over time, and there's no forum on the planet that doesn't have its trolls, naysayers, and aholes. Take what you need from the forum experience, leave the rest.

The exception is if someone is constantly badgering or is clearly being belligerent, at which time report the post and move on. Or private message them if you think they just need a friendly attitude adjustment.

Good advice moderated by what I said, I am guilty of occasionally not seeing sarcasm or jokes that weren't intended to be malicious. Have a good weekend. Don

There's always the ignore option. Hover over anyone's name on the left and it appears.

Nah, I know there is an ignore function. I've used it on other sites (firearms related) but haven't run into any people here that I want to ignore. Hope it stays that way.

I don't mind, in fact, appreciate being corrected when I'm clearly wrong. Don

I decided that the best route for me to go to top off charge the GT1s big AGM battery is a CTEK charger. I've heard nothing but rave review of them. As the attached quote says it can do the job I want done and do it safely with the battery in the car. 4.3 amp charging rate. $89 counting tax on Amazon, arriving tonight. Don

  • Award-winning, Most-Trusted 12V Battery Charger: From the company that created the 12v battery charger comes tried and tested technology used by over 40 of the world’s most prestigious vehicle manufacturers.
  • Built-In Temperature Compensation: Built in automatic charge voltage compensation ensures the most efficient charging in extreme cold or hot weather conditions.
  • Patented Desulphation Function and Reconditioning Mode: Unused batteries lose their power and their life is shortened through sulphation. The charger analyzes the state of the battery and, if possible, recovers the battery and its power. Reconditioning mode restores stratified and deeply discharged batteries.
  • Dedicated AGM Mode: Dedicated AGM Mode sets the absorption and float voltages and stage timing so that they are optimal for AGM batteries.
  • Connect and Forget: Simple plug and play operation. Select the program and mode and leave the charger to do the rest.
  • Safe and Easy to Use: Splash and dustproof, designed to protect vehicle electronics and non-sparking, reverse polarity protected, and short-circuit proof. Clean voltage and current delivery ensures no surges or spikes.
  • Protects Sensitive Equipment: Unlike less-sophisticated chargers, there is no need to disconnect the battery; the MXS 5.0 is specially designed to not damage electronic systems. No overcharge or undercharge ever.
