Okay, basically I was driving to work like normal the engine light came on and when I came to a stop light I noticed the engine idling loud.I have a CEL issue with our 2.0L that manifested last week. Have an appointment next Monday to diagnose, but our mechanic's OBD scanner said something that included "fuel rail", i.e., the fuel pump system. If KIA confirms, then the TSB on this should pay for it.
But your issue sounds over the top expensive. What can you tell me about any manifesting symptoms to confirm that this is a VVT caused issue? I want to understand.
I did a quick search, there’s a lot of remanufactured 3.3L engines for roughly between $3,000 - $5,000 with between 30,000 - 70,000 miles, I could only find a few priced as new and they were like $9,000 - $10,000.Holy crap couldn't you buy a new engine for that price?
Sorry I meant to say you could get a used engine for cheaper. I highly doubt you would find a brand new engine since the cars aren't made anymore.I did a quick search, there’s a lot of remanufactured 3.3L engines for roughly between $3,000 - $5,000 with between 30,000 - 70,000 miles, I could only find a few priced as new and they were like $9,000 - $10,000.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing but I don’t need a new engine, just some components within the vvt system.Sorry I meant to say you could get a used engine for cheaper. I highly doubt you would find a brand new engine since the cars aren't made anymore.
What is a "jumped" timing chain? What does that do to your engine? Is it buggered then? Third shop saying "we will replace your engine?" Am I reading this right?New update: it’s Tuesday again. I picked up my car from Centric auto. Paid them $300 total. They changed my oil and diagnosed the cel code P0014 and determined the timing chain is jumped. They quoted me a $3500 50k miles engine swap not including labor. I said no thanks I’ll have to save up for a bit. Also, Saturday I just bought a 2005 Ford Five Hundred for $1000 to replace my rental while I save up for the stinger’s vvt job.
Well there’s teeth in gears and cogs connected to the timing chain, I’m assuming something happened to pop the chain into the next tooth ahead on one of those components. So now the phaser is stuck in an advanced position and won’t retard back because the chain is whatever many teeth ahead. I’m not a mechanic that’s just my understanding,What is a "jumped" timing chain? What does that do to your engine? Is it buggered then? Third shop saying "we will replace your engine?"
