So I finally cleaned the dash, and noticed this odd horizontal line in the finish of the dash that will not take a shine, as though something rubbed the finish off. I noticed this initially but thought it was dust accumulation or something that would resolve once cleaned. I have spoken to the dealer and I have an odd choice to make, they will replace it per customer satisfaction but whatever comes gets installed, if its worse too bad. No option, the dealer cannot get a refund so if I choose to do it its a done deal without seeing the replacement. My experience so far with quality control on these cars is less than stellar so I am turning to you all to ask if any of you have odd things going on with your interior surfaces.

I recall having a similar "line" on my dash too, not sure if this is normal or not. I didn't worry much about it since I was more after the symphony of noises as first priority.

Did the car come with a “special” interior coating? Mine did and did something similar, though not a line. The whole dash just wouldn’t gloss for a couple months.

Hmmm....maybe if the dash isn't genuine leather (I don't recall if it is), perhaps that is a molded piece and what we're seeing is remnants from the mold release? It wears off over time?

Dashes aren’t leather.

It’s the airbag hidden seams.

Normal on just about any car you get these days.

Some cars it is more noticeable. Some less.

Use a high gloss coating like mcguires or armor all.

I don't want my dash to be high gloss. (OP, I'm sure that is airbag related.)

My minor issue is in the upper righthand corner by the windshield: where a "network" of faint lines appeared very early but have not gotten any worse. Since I don't know how they got there I haven't tried to "clean them off" or fade them with any treatment product. If they are very light abrasions, what is the best way to take them out?

Your ”line” is completely normal - it's where the airbag is released from the dash. Don’t mess with it.

Did your dash end up looking glossier over time? I thought my dash was dusty/faded looking, tried Meguiars interior cleaner and the adam's interior cleaner but neither really took away the faded look. Haven't noticed any possible abrasions like Merlin has, just overall hard-to-shinedness. The meguiars has worked for me on scuffs when I accidentally kick my door getting out.

Which Meg's product specifically are you referring to?

Yeah it definitely looked faded for a while till the dealers “special coating” wore off. It took a while for the armor all cleaner and protectant to make a difference. Now it looks great.

Hah, hah. That would be the day the earth stands still.:P Besides, that corner (in the pics) is entirely unreachable with feet.

No matter the reason I give my wife to NOT put her feet up there, she refuses to listen. I’ve solved the problem of at least having to clean the dash now by installing a dash cover.....so her feet will have the ultimate in comfort......until we hit something and the airbags go off.
