So they're doing construction on the highway in front of my office today, widening it from 2 to 4 lanes. 2 lanes in the middle are finished, and about 2 inches higher than the unfinished lanes on the outside.

Yeah, you see where this is going.

So they shifted traffic one lane over this morning to finish an outer lane, leaving the westbound traffic in the unfinished 'gutter' and the eastbound lane up on the wrong side of the finished section. After about a mile of this, they cross back over, putting people back in the middle island section.

Not a problem for most cars, and hell, they usually throw some asphalt down and ramp up the curb, instead of making people drive over a huge lip in the road. Not here though! So I'm driving along at 40ish, and notice the lane is merging back in and I've got to jump up this ledge. I'm looking for a low point that I'll be able to drive up, and nothing. I can't slow down because some a**hole truck is tailgating me. So it is what it is, I move up the ledge at the last second. Crunch. Dammit.

They also decided to close down the street up to my office literally 10 minutes before we open, so everyone was 20 minutes late today, my tires are coated in fresh asphalt so I'm kicking up rocks literally everywhere and have no traction, I've got a cold, only slept 3 hours last night, and no paid sick time.

Today is shaping up to be a shitty day. Lol. :poop:

Blayde! Sorry story! Funny! Aggravating "perfect storm" conditions. My wife said, "next time, please leave out the cuss words", when I read this to her just now. LOL.

I wonder if you could get angry with the right people and get some compensation? Of course, you'd have to stay angry long enough to see this through. And that would in all likelihood not be worth it. You could take your beauty to a wheel repair shop on somebody else's pay for. But you'd have to leave it there for one to three days, unless you had spare wheel(s) to drive around on while the rash gets healed.

Depending on the extent of the wheel damage and repair costs you may be able to file a collision claim. That is if your deductible is low.

Sorry to hear that - hope the damage is light and easily polished out.

I always try to cross the 'lip' in a similar situation at a 45 degree angle, which almost always requires slowing down considerably. I don't like inconveniencing other traffic either, but in this case it may have been worth momentarily ticking off the tailgaiter behind you ... I'd certainly understand if someone did the same in front of me.

It's thankfully pretty light, my wife would roll her eyes and say 'You're mad about -that-?'. Just a flat scuff on the bottom of the rim, about the size of a penny. I probably won't bother getting it fixed though, unless it messed up the seal on the tire. Next time I'll slow down and take it at a better angle, but I wasn't at 100% this morning (More like 20% - barely functional sick tired zombie) so I didn't think about it.

Been there done that. I feel for you. I have curb rash on one of my wheels right now. :(

LOL! I am on the same page with you, but thankfully in my past. No kids around here anymore. No overworking this retired Stinger driver. :D
