What I am about to explain to you, my have happened with some of you on here but I am like seriously in need of guidance.

So, I purchased my Stinger maybe 3 months ago. I waited for my generalized plates to come in, while I waited for my plates, I order specialized ones (as I always do). However, the dealership kept their advertisement plate on while the generalized plates arrived. When I took it to the dealership to retrieve the plates, the sales rep decided he wanted to put the plates on. He never took off the advertisement plate (no big deal).
Fast forward to last week, I finally picked up my specialized plates (My car only has 3100mi and has sat in the garage, because I travel). When I took off the trunk plates I noticed a huge f***ing crack in the trunk. There is separation, so it is very noticeable. Not only that, I followed the crack to check its origin and what do I see? Paint chipping/missing from the latch area (sorry the picture is crappy).
I am so livid, I got rid of my CTS-V (older model) for this and I am highly T'ed off.

Has anyone experienced this and what should I do? Call the insurance or the dealership?

Definitely looks like you were rear-ended at some point. Even the camera housing seems scuffed. Now, trying to prove this damage was done prior to ownership is going to be difficult. I'd try the dealership first to plead your case. All they can do is deny your claim. At that point, unless you have evidence to dispute, you would have to put in a claim on your insurance. Probably fall under uninsured/underinsured coverage. At least that's my take.

That is a tough one.

This looks bizarre. Th. Almost like it happened before it was shipped as the sticker doesn't exhibit a tear in it also. Is there any evidence of damage to the license plate(s)? A dent, scratch or something?

Thanks,
The car literally has sat in my garage for weeks on end since I bought it. Literally I've filled the tank 4 times. But it's really bizarre and I hate I found it so late.

My thoughts are it happened upon shipment as well. Or during movement of the car while at the dealership. However, I bought this off the showroom floor, which doesn't matter because the advertisement plates covered this issue.

No way the detailer didn’t notice on delivery. That dealership needs to take ownership. They won’t.

Now I don’t know how YOU didn’t notice it. I rubbed her down (detail/quick wax) the first day I got her. I would have noticed the damage near the camera. So that sir is your mistake.

I can't, nor will I accept responsibility for any of this. Regardless, if I waxed and found the crack after delivery, still doesn't drive fault towards me in any way.
With that being said, dealership wants to see it tomorrow so determine what they can do. I do not want Bondo and repainting, if you ask me the trunk should be replaced (just my thoughts).

The trunks are fiberglass , they would "weld" it from behind , repainting would be required even if they replaced it , which I belive is highly doubtful

So sorry, dude. It is YOUR responsibility to look over the vehicle before taking possession. Nobody else's, therefore this is 100% on you. You OWN the car and you own the condition it is in.

But he’s LITERALLY only driven the car 3000 miles with 4 takes of gas all in his garage. It had to have happened at the dealer.

OR, maybe he also has an old Gremlin in his garage that's been up to mischief, lol!

Btw, sure wish I could get 750+ miles per tank.....

The trunk lid and that panel are separate pieces. They can easily remove that back panel and replace (painted of course).

The dealership ran the plate bolts way to hard into the back and buckled the plastic panel. It's their fault.

Zooming in on your photo, you also have some nasty paint peeling on that tailgate. Good riddance.

How'd you get 3100 miles out of 4 tanks of gas? I can't even get 1k miles out of 4 tanks.

Anyway, if the dealership refuses to fix it call Kia and plead your case. They have a decent track record of taking care of Stinger owners so far.

You make me smile! Thanks for your input.

Okay, so the fill-ups are a bit of an exaggeration...lol! I'll try to be more precise, next time. However the mileage stands true.

So I gotta ask again.... 3100 miles and you’ve never washed your car or used detailing spray?

Do you take off the plates each time you wash your car?

Maybe I need to sit down and think of a better way to tell this to some of you on here.

My license plates cover the cracker area. And NO, I do not wax each time I wash, there's no point in that. Not to mention, I use a spray on detailer while I rub it down in the garage. Where you see the paint peeling is literally on top of the latch. Now you tell me how many times you looked at your latch or rubbed some wax on it.
