• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

I see common sense has been thrown out the window in Queensland with fines being given by police for people just driving in their car for no reason. They haven't even gotten out of their car. Surely in these turbulent times, police need to show discretion in these matters. If the action is not contributing to the spread of this virus, why hit them with a huge fine. I hang my head in shame at what some police are doing in the Eastern states and I am a police officer myself in the west. This is not a communist country.

The original article didn't mention the rally. I came across that later. It just stated fines were being issued for just going for a drive. As usual maybe the media are just talking it up. Still, as a driving enthusiast, do you think you should be fined for just taking the Stinger for a drive.

I guess the difference is that the Eastern States, NSW in particular, are getting hit far harder by the virus than WA is so the authorities on this side of the country are a bit more vigilant about stopping people travelling too far from home. WA is even more decentralised than QLD is and you guys have got only half the cases that we have so I get that it may not seem like a big deal there but it’s definitely a big deal here and even more so in NSW.

I just feel the governments and police are taking this a little too far. But feel free to disagree. It's a free country. Well it used to be, not quite sure of that anymore.

Judging by the Police media footage - it looked like a massive cruise / meet up to me.

They should've be isolating at home if they weren't driving somewhere important.

They were fair game in my book.

But they said there was 150+ cars but only 50 odd tickets - yet their footage clearly showed cars with multiple people. So either a lot of cars escaped or were let off?

What about the 17 year old girl getting a driving lesson from her mother in Victoria. Are they fair game too. How many lives will that $1652 infringement save?

How about the 16yo girl in Victoria on L plates that got fined $1652 for simply trying to get her hours up whilst the traffic was quiet. Was is "essential"...probably not. Did the female police officer over react...most likely. I believe the matter is under review so hopefully a good outcome for said driver.

Agree the driving lesson debate is a much more valid argument & probably should have further public clarification from officials.

Could it be essential that they clock up hours for their license by X time for employment/whatever?
Granted the supervising driver is probably a parent from the same household anyway.

They should've just said they were on their way to the supermarket.

Staying home is not the core campaign; killing virus is. And driving won't have an effect either way. So, being entirely neutral, it should not get you pulled over. A story yesterday out of PA had a young woman out driving simply for the relaxing pleasure (we can all use more of that!). The cop said he pulled her over because a taillight was out. She honestly answered the question of her purpose by admitting what she was about: and he cited her for disobeying Guv Wolf and not staying home except for "necessary" driving. She said that she thought a drive was okay. Back home, her father could not find any taillight out. They plan to contest the citation.

Venues like this bring out the control freaks.

Its all explained by David Icke on the LONDONREAL you tube channel. I suggest you all watch it. DAVID ICKE - THE CORONAVIRUS CONSPIRACY. It includes talk about we,re are all being manipulated.

No. I am not going anywhere near any of that. :P

Potentially quite a few. The fine will ultimately be waived and awareness of the rules has been raised substantially thanks to the amount of publicity. Everyone wins.

Man here in Cali when they first announced the shelter in place, it was great. Got some nice empty highway pulls that I will totally plead the 5th on. Now people are starting to clog it up again and it's harder to enjoy the roads. As for me, I am an "essential" worker so I can go anywhere I please. That doesn't mean that I go around purposely coughing on produce in stores like some kids. They get the Darwin award for sure.

I was out on Saturday night for a cruise, there were a good percentage of like minded people out as well. As far as I'm concerned, I've got my own little sphere of isolation in there and a cabin air filter to keep me separated from it. Coffee shop drive throughs are still open, pretty easy to say you're just going out to a drive through.

On the other hand, there are families all over the neighbourhood that are just letting their kids go to the playground (I have a 5 year old, I'm looking for other things for her to do), there are people out all over the place walking and getting outside and sharing sidewalks. Unless you're breaking a law, I don't see how you could be fined, we're not under Martial Law.

We have police at the border between Ontario and Quebec turning people back to Ontario, I'm not actually sure under what law they have the ability to do that, lots of people around here have primary residences in Ontario and vacation homes up in Quebec

Around here, just say you're heading to the liquor store. It was deemed an essential business. Can't stop drinking because AA is closed!

Here in NZ, you aren't allowed to drive your car unless it's to an essential business (supermarket, doctor, pharmacy) or to work if you're employed in an essential industry. Everyone else is prohibited from the road. People complained a bit at first, saying that they were still in their personal bubble in their cars, but the government pointed out that you're only in your bubble if your car doesn't break down forcing you to contact others to help you in person, and only if you don't have an accident forcing emergency and health services to help you in person (the same reason that high risk activities like mountain-biking and boating are also prohibited), and only if you don't need to fill up your car causing you to touch a petrol pump (well-known source of infection) and/or pay someone in person.

It's a minor inconvenience that most people are happy to deal with in the short term. As a thought exercise, go look in the mirror and ask yourself "Am I personally willing to accept minor inconveniences to possibly limit the spread of this disease in my community". Your answer is probably a good indicator of whether the death toll in your country is going to be high or low at the conclusion of this pandemic.
