convince me to buy a Kia Stinger...

I didn't bother reading the full thread...only the "convince me part". Here's the deal. If you drove it and you liked it, buy it. If you think your mustang is the thing for you then keep it. I mean... "convince me"? If the drive didn't convince you (it did for me)...then the car is not for you. Just my opinion.

Look, I can't speak for the OP, but some us do/did need convincing or at least we thought we did. If the reasons for this aren't apparent to you, let me try an analogy. I know some simply love the Stinger and knew they wanted it at first sight. For me it was more like, "Do I want to keep dating my super hot girlfriend who is awesome in bed but is a little too crazy to meet my family OR do I want the super cute "girl next door" that would be a wonderful wife, and mother to my kids and can sit down and watch MotoGP with me?"

Many stick with option 1 their whole life and end up marrying a stripper or something (1200hp Mustang guy), some pick option 2 too early and end up cheating on their wife (Toyota Prius guy), and but then there are people like me who dated enough hot chicks in college and early adulthood to know that it was fun but it isn't all that is out there (Kia Stinger type). Don't forget the infinitesimally small group of people who marry the super hot girlfriend that ends up making a great wife (AMG E 63S guy) There are other women who are different, not better or worse, just different and at various key points in life the need for different usually becomes apparent.

People who date the crazy hot girls usually need convincing that settling down is okay... That the "girl next door" won't be boring or regrettable but will be just as good, just in a different way. Some people still end up marrying the stripper and some people marry their high school sweetheart without ever experiencing anything else. I think the OP just wants to know that the Stinger is different, not worse.

I'm not a young guy anymore but while I enjoy a fast car, modding it was never my thing. My favorite car was a 2005 BMW 525 with the Sport Package and a 6 speed manual, a car that drove and handled well with enough power to keep things fun. It would take on ramps at crazy speeds but lacked the sort of lean you expected when doing so, it was a really fun car to drive but on some roads the hits felt a bit much (thank you run flat tires). I upgraded to the 2010 535 M-Sport and that car was even more fun but so much more composed, I feel the Stinger is much that car. Mind you I have only driven the GT and not the GT1 or 2 however, that suspension setup is quite good and makes it a great drive. That car is a lot of fun without beating you up but if you want, you can tune it for more power and performance. Most of us know this car is a game changer for the brand and with more aftermarket folks coming to realize this, more mods will be made available in the future.

You, cars2see, are the one that has to live with the car and from what I can tell you seem to like the Stinger a lot. KIA has been making great cars and have been improving their quality for years now. I have been with them since 2012 through 3 Optima Hybrids and can attest to the improvements. If you keep it long term you will be happy to know you have a well built vehicle that you will be happy to look back at after you get done driving it. It will turn the heads of others as well. :)

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

This might help your decision.

I/m currently driving a 15 mustang gt performance pack , with a few upgrades, love the car dearly and have had 8 mustangs in my time so far on this earth ( 25 years old). i drove a kia stinger the other day to see how i feel, i liked the car but idk, i feel like im doing something wrong if i make this choice. now i know most of you traded in or switched from something you loved to the stinger, so convince me to do the same. in other words... i need someone to push me over the edge.
If you need convincing, don’t buy it. Don’t spend that amount of money on something that you need convincing to buy. I love my Stinger GT, but that’s my 2 cents.

Well, that's definitely an analogy of some sort. I understand what you're saying, but it's actually more simple than that. Either YOU (as in he) want this car or YOU (as in he) does not want this car. Nobody should have to convince YOU (as in he). YOU (as in he) will end up with the result, not ME (as in me). It's like that thing where a guy sits at a table and has a sign that says "convince me of XYZ". That always makes me laugh.

Maybe "convince" is a less than ideal choice of words. Are you more comfortable with persuade, encourage, recommend? I think he does want the Stinger, but he also wants his Mustang. He just doesn't know which one he wants more. Have you ever wanted two different things but knew you could only have one? I dunno, just guessing...:)

Such a beautiful color! KIA needs to come up with some different interior colors for this car to expand the choices. Love the red but would like brown as well.

I'm more comfortable with recommend...Yes, let's go with that. So, yes...I recommend.

thanks for all the replies guys, much appreciated. @Helo58 are you planning on doing anything aftermarket wise to your stinger?

Wheels for sure, just have to decide on weight goal and ideal width for my use. I would like a little more juice, but I want some of the solutions to be a little more sorted before I pull the trigger. Window tint obviously. I am doing a halfway rebadge where my goal is not to get rid of KIA, but rather emphasize Stinger. Hood and steering wheel will likely stay unchanged. Rear will get larger stinger script and tiny stinger delete. Suspension mods down the road maybe, but again, we have to see what rises to the top.

I only wanted the powertrain (RWD 3.3TT, 8-sp, LSD). Everything else adds weight to the car. I really didn't even want the driver assist package but to find a ceramic silver in the GT trim was a unicorn so I took it as part of the deal. The GT1 and GT2 trims had some attractive parts to them, but nothing I couldn't live without. I don't need a sunroof, HUD, self opening trunk, heated steering wheel, 114 speakers, etc. I wanted the car to look good and go fast. IMO, the GT is well equipped to begin with.

Bottom line, the GT1 isn't available with the LSD and I didn't want the weight penalty of AWD especially considering that the AWD is not a performance option but rather a inclement weather option. The GT2 was essentially $10k more than the GT, but I considered it because Ceramic Silver isn't an option on the base GT (at least according to the build and configure page at KIA.com). When I found the base GT in Ceramic Silver with a nice smattering of tech (driver assist package), all of the boxes were checked so I couldn't say no.

sounds like that deal was meant for you and thats something i also would have gotten. im looking ideally for you with the driver package and ceramic silver of course but theres one thing i need to bring up and see how you and anyone else feels about this. the sound.. how do you feel about it and what are you going to do about it?

I think you are facing the same issue I had before switching over to the Stinger. I, like you, had nothing but nissan's and Infiniti's, loved them. When the Stinger was announced it caught my eye and sparked my interest on the brand. I was skeptical at first since the brand had a not so good reputation before, but after doing my research and seeing all the improvements in every department (interior and exterior design, performance, etc.) and the amazing warranty they offer I was half way convinced that the Stinger will be a tough candidate.

Fast forward a few years and the Stinger is now available in Korea and the reviews start coming out. Everyone raved about the car and praised the brand for creating a very serious contender to the big German boys and a very solid alternative for those that want all luxury, performance and tech features the competitors have for a fraction of the cost. Shortly after I received notice that a K-spec Stinger was available for show only at a near by dealer, I immediately made my way there to check it out. Needless to say I was extremely impressed by the looks of the exterior, the interior had the quality and design that of its German competitors. At that point I was just waiting for the Stinger to be released in the US, and asked the dealer to call me whenever they receive the first GT model.

The big day came and got a call from the dealer claiming that they had just unloaded a black GT2 RWD and that it will be ready in the afternoon. I was there that same day, test drove it and it was everything and more than what I had expected. Performance that rivals and in some cases beats cars in the same category at twice the price...Check....Features that are sometimes missing or not found on some of the cars on the same price price point.....Check......Luxury ride with enough grunt and power to surprise those when they least expected.....Check. To top things off you don't see many of these on the streets so wherever you go you will have someone trying to figure out what in the world is that beauty and who makes it, the best part is looking at their faces when they find out who makes it;)

I ended up getting with a SWP GT2 RWD and do not regret switching from a big name brand to the underdog. Photos for reference, she looks a bit different now:D

Just found this comparison today:
Thanks for posting- the Mustang definitely performed better on the track, which I expected. The Mustang had the track suspension upgrades as well as considerably more power - I'd be really interested to see a before and after track time for the Stinger, from someone who's installed the Eibach suspension upgrades.
