Considering Stinger GT for next car

If offered a choice, I'd keep The Donald ... for now. His influence in the wider world is, interesting. So far, I am not complaining about how things generally are going. I don't listen to how he says things, I am only interested in the outcome of what he does.
OK, just lost a respected friend. No need to reply, I will not see it.

First response, very snarky but clever, deleted. *sigh*

Yea, well how would you like to trade, your Prime Minister for our President. Have to warn you though, he's not to fond of Canadians. The joke would be on you.....
Is he supposed to be fond of Canadians? You have a leader that actually cares about your country and its citizens and puts his own country first, unlike us.

It's about cars, Paul.

But, everyone has political and religious and sexual ID ideas that offend a good portion of the world. If we all take offense when some of these ideas get aired, even on a car forum, then doors get slammed, communication stops, and wars draw nearer. The world is made of individuals, and the aggregate of individuals forms a common atmosphere in which we interrelate. And if that atmosphere closes off everyone that annoys, then hostility blooms and the fighting starts.

We better shut this down now. We dont need Paul firebombing this forum ANTIFA style because he isnt getting his way. Orange man bad.... orange man bad...

I feel a bit guilty for getting this started with my Stinger/Trump analogy. (Ok, not THAT guilty ;).) Just making light. I'll just end it by saying that, after a bit of stress during the buying decision, I have not been at-all disappointed in either of my two major 2018 choices. ;) See you on another thread!

So......back to the topic at hand. Should our friend buy a Stinger? It really comes down to what you want and what you are prepared to give for it, and it's not simply a financial equation.

For the price I paid ($39k), I feel like I got a killer deal on a car that makes me smile when I look at it and when I drive it. The closest thing for me was the S5, but I don't drive enough to justify the $ difference. At ~40k I was looking at CPO 440xi GC or an A5 Sportback. I went with the Stinger because in Seattle BMWs are dime a dozen and I wanted peace of mind of new.

At that price point I was willing to deal with some new model annoyances, but I didn't expect to have to deal with paint issues. I have very minor early stage issues (but enough to be OK'd for bumper repaint). If they don't turn into major issues, I'll be smiling for years to come, but I would tell any prospective buyer to seriously go over the car with a magnifying glass at all the well-discussed trouble spots.

What is the point of even asking the question? Is anyone actually permitted to say no without being accused of trolling? Every car has pros and cons and some of the current cons with this model do support the need to have that conversation over whether you should be buying this car or not right now. Dogpile away but thats the truth.

FWIW, I'm on your side. I am actually surprised you would even reluctantly recommend the car after what you've been through.

Who is arguing? The car has widespread paint issues on the top of the hatch, under the headlights and elsewhere. Using your issue free car to apply a conclusion for the rest of the production models is dishonest. Prospective buyers should know about the issues without biased owners brushing them under the mat. The car has paint issues and there is no conclusive evidence that they are completely resolved. Stop being a petulant child about it.

I didn't brush anything under the mat, I told him what we know to be true, numerous Stingers built in 2017 have paint issues while very few in 2018 have any and we haven't seen a single 2019 model year with any, I then directed him to the section with the paint issue threads. That's as unbiased as you can get, I gave him all the details and he can make his own decision, I never claimed "no paint issues!". Unlike you, where you simply told him "don't buy! paint issues!" with absolutely no context. Why do you have to say something negative virtually every comment you make? Why are you even on here? You don't even own a Stinger.

As for the suspension, adaptive makes it a bit stiffer in sports mode but I think it's still pretty soft. A few people on here have added front and rear sway bars, their reviews are that it really stiffens it all up but still allows for a smooth ride and it's pretty cheap to put them on. Choosing between the BMW, Audi, and Stinger is really personal preference, definitely test drive them all. I'm incredibly happy with mine, this thing is a torque monster in the first couple gears, it reminds me of a muscle car down low with the interior quality and comfort of a German car. It also gets A LOT of attention, several times I've had people standing around it outside a store, I've had people talk to me at stop lights, gas stations, I've gotten thumbs up on the road. That would never happen in a BMW or Audi unless you had an M or RS series.
