Time to start shaming them in the media. Start with the local news... often they have some special “better call Harry” correspondent that will help by publishing shamin articles and contacting the dealer/Kia on your behalf (for free).Just received a response from Kia, to say that I'm livid would be an understatement.

The "nose" level may be acceptable, but what about the noise?
This hit or miss treatment from Kia and their dealers really sucks. Even though German cars have their problems, I recall seeing much fewer forums and message boards stating the dealers won't put in effort to fix something. Maybe that's part of what you get when you pay the "premium" for those brands.
Anyway, the response you received is pretty much the same as mine, except they had the genius idea to compare my faulty vehicle to what seems to be another faulty vehicle on the lot and thus deemed it "normal" to have a blasphemously noisy sunroof. What a bunch of goofs.
I'm starting to question keeping the car. Might go pick up a used car and then just get rid of this stupid thing. These dealers and some of these Kia "engineers" are just inept. I've already found more leads than they have and I have no technical training.
At the end of the day, regardless of this being simply an annoyance of the car, the biggest kick in the teeth is what is the point of a 5 year warranty when poor quality parts are not fixed.
You're going thru the same shit I am. My car has been in twice for the rattling/creaking sunroof, and it's still there. The last time I picked up my car they even added a new rattle somewhere on the driver's doorAfter watching your video I ran out to the garage to check mine, and it has about the same amount of movement. Unfortunately, the dealership told me they couldn't do any more to try and solve this. I contacted "Kia Consumer Assistance Center" and never heard back from them.
I traded in a 2013 Audi S4 on this vehicle. I put roughly 95k miles on the S4 and it was as quiet as the day I bought it. I almost pulled the trigger on a 2018 S4, but then went with the Stinger mainly because of the warranty. Well, what good is the warranty if they won't/can't fix what needs to be fixed? Audi covered the bill (about $950) on an auxiliary radiator that got hit by a rock when I was driving down freeway. Kia won't fix a car with 8k miles on it that sounds like a drawer full of bolts going down the road.
Long story short, the Stinger might be getting traded in before winter.
Rev , please call Matt and find out what the issues were and what he had to do to get mine fixed , at the very least he can guide you thru the process of taking this to the next level ............................Yeah I'm honestly almost halfway on the fence these days. In the grand scheme, I drive with the music on and I always have the roof/windows open when it is nice out, and it didn't make noises in the winter when it was below zero every day. I almost never have passengers in the car. So why does this bug me? I think it's because it shouldn't be that way, and should justifiably be fixed.
I bought the Stinger for various reasons. Firstly, my Mustang was coming off warranty and it was getting progressively worse in the build quality department and I wasn't enjoying it like when it was new, so it was time for a change. I bought the Stinger because of the numerous rave reviews, it drove great (and silent) in the one I test drove, and it has a lot of things I wanted when buying a new car like a decent stereo from factory, sunroof, HUD, etc. I was a little leery since it is an expensive Korean car, but it did feel German in the way it drives. I did see a few reviews noting rattles, but I did expect many of the test cars on the road were early builds or prototypes for media purposes and figured if I purchased one of the latest builds on the lot, the kinks should be ironed out. Lo and behold, the sunroof is easily making this car the most noisy and irritating vehicle I have ever owned, even worse than my 2009 Cobalt SS, and that was a rattling shit box! This is worse! Then to add salt into the wound, it's been to the dealer 3 times for the sunroof and the last visit was even directed by the Service Manager himself, only to be turned down because the other Stinger on the lot also makes shitty noises, thus is considered acceptable.
What does this make me feel like? It makes me feel stupid for having faith that Kia's good standing with JD Power initial quality, the rave reviews, etc. I ignored the select few that warned of the issues under the premise it was probably the unlikely few experiencing these issues. I was wrong.
What options do I see? Brandish their name in social media with whatever avenues I can explore? Wait for a fix that may or may not happen? Sell the car even though that would be fiscally irresponsible? Keep trying to reverse engineer the problem myself? Escalate to Kia Corporate even though the Canadian line doesn't get a call through the line unless you're on hold for quite literally at least an hour? Drive the car through the dealer's bay door at 100mph? Honestly, why should we have to work so damn hard to get this fixed. I recall a statement in a global meeting at work one day: "It's not my fault, but it's my problem;" absolutely correct, that statement is.
Anyway, that's my vent. What am I really going to do? Well I'm not going to jump ship and sell it just yet. It's just blemishes on the overall quality of what is otherwise a fantastic daily driver. If I can make it to winter, it might be a repeat of last year where the roof stays silent when below freezing which is our winter for 4-5 months easily. I may get in touch with the corporate line. I might reach out to westcoastGT's contact in NF. I'm just so perturbed that I need to put this much effort into something that isn't my fault, but is my problem, and I get to pay for it for another 4 years. Fantastic.
Sorry dude. I still suggest you try my hack workaround. Wedge a felt coaster (folded) between the front gap on from the inside of the car (when vented for example).Yeah I'm honestly almost halfway on the fence these days. Then when closed see if that stops it. On mine, it stopped it by 95%.

You were right: it is an "unlikely few experiencing" extraneous noises. Either that or a majority of Stinger drivers are mostly deaf or clueless. Most of this forum's members do not complain about these noises. And there are quite a few of us who continue to remind the forum that our cars are quiet. So you are unlucky. And I am sorry. Hopefully you'll find a solution. There is no way that any play in the mechanism is normal. I'd pursue that angle with Kia. Ask them: "Why does my car and others have play in our sunroofs? We know others have perfectly tight sunroofs with little to no rattling issues."Just a further comment on the sunroof situation, I don't know what percentage of owners are experiencing this issue, but if every single one that has the problem brings the car into the dealer repeatedly, with enough volume, it's going to be hard for Kia Corp to ignore. Because there was a TSB (of sorts) issued in AUS about the silicone on the mounting points, that says me Kia at least knows this is a problem, they're not as blissfully unaware as they pretend to be. I think they know enough that it's going to be damn expensive to fix all of these and they are probably trying to keep it off the radar...TBH.

I'm wondering if an official poll would help shed some light as to whether or not there are consistencies with this theory: Loose with noise, loose with no noise, tight with noise, tight with no noise.
It wouldn't be a perfect science, but statistics that can be analyzed do give weight to the argument.
Thanks for the info on this. I had anticipated SOMETHING should come up at some point, just didn't know when.I just brought mine in to the dealer (Austin, TX) for routine maintenance and to have them look into the sunroof noise. They said that Kia knows about a possible sunroof issue with the stingers and a TSB might be coming with official repair instructions. They wanted to open things up and take a look anyway, but since they said a TSB might be coming, I elected to wait a bit for official guidance from Kia on it rather than have them tear into the car looking for the issue. It's annoying, but with music on and/or sunshade closed, it's not something I need fixed asap. No timeframe was given for a TSB - I'll just call them and ask next oil change.
