my GT2 makes a short term knock sound at cold start lasting maybe 5-10 seconds then gone. This is only apparent with overnight sitting. Anyone else experience this? I couldn’t tell you where it’s coming from, it sounds top end...but it’s gone before I can locate it and all sounds normal after that

I get the same sound at cold start.
it sounds like air filters are choking.
but I didn't bother much as my previous Hyundai Veloster made the same sound during cold start.
or should I be concerned..

Seems like I saw this in another thread about it being the lifters and normal but I could be wrong.

Goes away as soon as you hit the gas, this is normal.

Drive and enjoy.

It's the high pressure fuel pump on cold start. Pretty typical with DI turbo motors. Nothing to worry about, just noisy

Just an FYI, the loud knocking sound the OP mentions is, indeed, the lifters. The high pressure fuel pump is the rapid ticking sound.

I'm not sure what knock sound is being described then. Especially if lifters are being described as the culprit. The HPFP sounds like lifter tick which is why am assuming that's what's being referred to.

If you open your hood and leave your driver's side door open so you can lean out, if you start it up when it's ice cold overnight, you can hear both. You'll hear a rapid ticking that lasts 15-20 seconds that goes down in volume until it's "warm" but remains audible, but you'll also hear the initial, louder knocking sound the OP is referring to that lasts 5-10 seconds and goes away entirely. Two different things, both annoying to me (honestly), but they're normal sadly enough.

I've owned 2 stingers. Both did/do it. I thought it was rod knock. But since both cars had less than 20k when I got them, I thought it was maybe the hpfps. Glad u guys confirmed and clarified

My stinger has done it since day one and now has over 130K.
