I decided to change my plugs on my stock 3.3 at 148k km (92k miles). I know it's late, should have been done at 100k. The car was running fine.

When I pulled the first Coil pack, the boot stayed attached to the car. It came apart when I tried to extricate it. I've ordered a new coil, should be here Monday, so my car is bricked for the weekend. I don't think I'll pull any more or it will be a pretty expensive plug change, x6.

Here's hoping that your violation of "if it ain't broke, don't mess with it" goes okay. Changing one coil pack doesn't seem like a good idea. But if your new plugs work out, then adhere to the maxim unless or until you start getting misfires and probably one or more bad coils. I do know that a bad coil pack will destroy any new plug in a matter of days. You won't get out of changing at least the bad coils.

I'm not changing any plugs because then I'd have to change all the coils too, I'm guessing. I planned a $100 job not a $700 job.

I'll change the damaged coil and call it a day.

You are way overdue with spark plugs. They need to be replaced every 42k miles.

^^^that's only a recommendation of KIA. Plugs can go twice that long or more. "Can", not will. If nothing is wrong with the running of the car then keep running the plugs. After a bad experience changing plugs at c. 45,000 miles, Ima not changing them at 90,000 miles until misfiring or other plug related issues manifest themselves.

I have a hard time visualizing what happened. Got a pic of the broken coil?

the boot is detachable from the "head" of the coil. you can put them back together easily. As long as you don't tear the boot, it's not a problem. If "came apart" means it crumbled into small pieces, then yes, you need a new coil. but if it's just boot, coil, and contact spring, you can just pop everything back together.

Thanks. In my case it crumbled. In the end I broke down and ordered all 6, just so the car is maintained to a high standard.

I threw it out, but I'm waiting on the remaining 5 coils before I change the rest. If it happens on any of the remaining coils I'll take a pic and post.

I just ordered a set of the rubber boots online that aren't directly linked to the stinger, but they have a very small overlap in listed compatibility. I'll be sure to post here asap with what I found out.
