I scratched my new Chroma red (H4R) Stinger doing the badge swap. I went to the Seattle Kia dealer and ordered a touch up pen. It was the wrong color of red so i took it back and they ordered another one and its wrong also! They bath had the correct code and color on the label. So now they are going to contact Kia, whatever that means.

So beware if you order a touch up paint pen from Kia!

How far off is the red you tried? Could it be that the color isn't wrong, but the application changes its appearance? I know that the Silky Silver touch up doesn't blend for crap, and the larger the touch up the more obvious it is. But I wouldn't assert that the color in the pen is wrong.

Any resolution from KIA? My touch up paint was ordered online and is past the return period.

I have the same issue and feel that the color match is horrible. My other car is a Ford with blue jeans metallic paint. When I touch up rock chips, it matches perfectly. Based on this, I suspect that there is a definite issue with the color match of the hi chroma paint.

@Crccobra This is off topic, but I think I spotted your car yesterday downtown. 1-5 southbound, around 6ish.

They said go to a body shop. They charged me for both

That was me! Is this CP?

I’ve only seen two HiChroma’s in the area. One was in Kenmore and the driver had to be in their 80s.

I happen to have a shop on Lake City Way/Kenmore but I'm not close to 80!

I see a white Stinger at one of the West Seattle fire stations, is that you?

im In Kirkland, so not too far from your shop. I drive a black Premium, but it’s currently in the shop getting some warranty work done.

Maybe a little off topic but when I was shopping around I looked at the high chroma red at my local dealership and I noticed that the fuel doors didn’t match the car. In direct sunlight the fuel door took on a bit of a pink color while the rest of the car stayed dark. Two cars side by side, same effect! Now, I do wear polarized sunglasses and I could “create” a darkening effect of the fuel door by rotating/tilting my head to the side, which also caused the car to lighten. I only mention this because it might support the idea of the direction the paint is applied affecting its color perception.

.. which also means getting a good match with a pen is going to be nearly impossible, as the flake is not going to lay down the way it would from a spray.

But touch up pens are only for the smallest of flaws/injuries. Rock chips, thin scratches, etc. Not for fingernail sized damage, and the like. The way the pigment "lays down" isn't an issue with rock chips. Still, it won't be invisible. But it should be unnoticeable from five-six feet away. "Nothing in life has any business being perfect."

(I have a small pinky fingernail sized flaw in my front bumper, beside the right headlight assembly, that I caused by trying to repair a rock ricochet; which I finally accepted as unfixable short of a body shop repair; which I was not willing to undertake. My final attempt was to get the touch up paint on a palette and use a flat brush, one pass over the area, nice and flat: and the pigment "lay down" was of course impossible to match with the original spray surrounding the injured spot: but "as good as it gets". Then, I PPFed over the entire front. The spot is still there, like a mole or little hickey: a reminder of the quote I gave above.:))

I just ordered a can of OEM spec paint in a spray can to fix a small scuff on my lower front fascia , I plan to sand , fill , prime ,paint and clear coat the repair and will share the outcome , not cheap for a 12 oz can - $50 ...................I'll keep you posted

How did it work out? Did it match? I have a chip in the front from changing the badge and the Kia pen sucks, car looks like it has a scab vers a red paint. I'm ready to order custom stray paint online with the Kia color code, can't be any worst of a match.

automotivetouchup.com , just enter the paint code , they 'll send you color and clear . Works great !
I agree with automotivetouchup.com I've used them for several colors and all are spot-on accurate. If they don't have the color, give them the code and they will match it. I did that for my HiChroma Red and they made it up and it's perfect. Also recommend using the little pen tool for tiny rock chips rather than the brush. Much neater and easier to use. You can find those on the internet.
