Chipped Dash Aluminium Trim

Heres another quick vid on an Audi vinyl conversion

To be honest, if I would be able to take the trim out of the dashboard, I would just replace it with a new one. The problem is that it's very well embedded into the dash as opposed to on audi/vw. I have experienced changing the trims in my Passat and that was a 30 min job for a novice like myself.
I will be looking for a Sharpie to make it less visible. I've emailed a few detailing shops around to ask for advice. I was also thinking if I could use my insurance to get a replacement but it seems a little bit ridiculous to file a claim for such a tiny (yet very annoying) damage.

I have a chip in mine too, but it's BLACK underneath. I consider you lucky. It could look a lot worse.

Some of the aluminum is real, some of it is plastic. I'm pretty sure the door grab and handle are plastic, if I make it a year without scratching/dinging those up I'll be surprised. Little disappointed they used plastic on a heavy wear item like the door handles.

I have a lil nick on the front passenger door grab... g/f chipped it with her jewellry. Very soft paint/plastic! Not very noticeable but i know EXACTLY where it is and it bugs me...

Thinking to get touch up paint n try... its only a very small chip.

I told my wife to use the door well and leave the grab handle alone. She respects that. :)

If i knew the trim was so easy to chip, i would of said the same!!! Gutted. haha

I just got the second chip, few cm away from the other :(. Exactly the same way: an aluminium macbook touching the dash with its side. I'm really considering changing the whole damn thing when I take it in for the oil change. In the mean time I need to get my friend to stop using her laptop in the car..
Very poor design to have such a sensitive piece of aluminium (or whatever it is) sticking out at the bottom of the dashboard.
Later Edit: I just checked and it's only 47$ now but shipping is another 60$ :(. Do you think this is the exact part? It says that it's black.. Is there a black version to this trim?

Id hate to say it but why is someone using a macbook in the car? And why did they lean it against the aluminium strip?

Never mind... just realised that the aluminium trim comes with the whole dash.. like here: 2018-2019 Kia Stinger Trim Assembly 84765-J5300WK | Paramount Auto
This is horrible!

I'm getting mind replaced soon through dealership, I'm just waiting on parts right now.
You should be able to order just that piece separately, but replacement is painful,, you need to remove that giant trim with 3 vent holes and another piece just below the trim you have paint chip

Well, because we travel a lot for work and we usually also discuss stuff in the car, hence the laptop. However, the trim is really easy to touch by accident, as it stands out from the dashboard. I’ve never once chipped the aluminium trim on my VW Passat in 150 times more kilometers. I really am disappointed by this thing.
@StingaGT I am under the impresion that the part you are showing is the plastic piece that comes under the silver trim. Look closer in the car. I think now that the silver trim comes with the huge part of the dash.
I’ve also tried with a silver retouch paint but it just looked bad and quickly removed it.

Not sure I've ever heard anyone blame a car design for damage caused by a passenger, but ok..

While you are technically right, the fact that there are already a few of us (on this thread) with this piece of trim chipped (by accident) does raise some concern. This doesn't usually happen to a piece which is on upper part of the dash unless there is some design flaw or it's made of poor quality material.

The mood lighting strip isn't really on the "upper part of the dash". It is in harm's way, no question. But really, any interior part is capable of being impacted by a hard or sharp object in a passenger's hands. I think the issue here, from your description, is that your friend is too close to the dash for holding a laptop. She should pull the seat back to a safe distance. Better late than never.

@StingaGT Good news!! It seems that Kia has decided to produce that as an individual part. Just found out from a guy on youtube.
Here is the updated diagram from kiapartsnow.com. It's a 30$ piece of trim and includes the mood lamp.
I'm looking at where I can get it from in Europe. So happy Kia realised there are quite a few clumsy people out there that need an easy replacement for that.Screenshot 2021-04-09 at 23.16.16.webp

I finally did the bezel swap. It's not the hardest thing to take apart so I decided to do it myself rather than have some guy at the dealer maybe mess up a clip and create a new rattle. The dash cover is very very easy to take out. It's the plastic piece that comes under the silver bezel that is hard to take out and put back in. Hard as in it takes a lot of care.

Once the dash cover is out, there are A LOT of screws you need to take out to separate the bezel from the dash cover but they are all very compliant.
I used this guys tutorial and it worked like a charm:

Finally, after more than 2 years, my dash is like new again. Very happy!!
Here are during and after pics: looks super bad ass without the dash cover :))
