Chip on my hood

I just picked up 19 GT2 last Thursday. As I was driving home I noticed a chip in the hood by where the windshield wiper is on the driver side (see pic). Looks like someone ran the wiper with the hood up or something. When I got home, I called the dealer and let them know (dealer is about a 60 mile drive). They wanted me to initially go to someone to patch it up and if that didn't work they would send me to a body shop. So, I drove the 60 miles each way to have the spot fixed. All they basically did was put some touch up paint in the spot (not even a good color match). I can still see the where chip is, just covered up with paint.

It is kind of pain to drive over there, so I asked if there was a body shop local to me where the car could be fixed. They are supposed to get back to me in the next day or so. Does this look like it is down to the metal? Will it rust? I am not sure how long I want to be without the car for something minor and thinking about just letting it be. Looking for opinions on if I should fix it or let it go.

Most likely what happened is that someone at the dealership tried pulling the wiper arm away from the windshield while washing the car. But in some vehicles, the Stinger being one of them, the hood interferes resulting in the paint chipping. There is a service procedure described in your owner's manual that allows the wiper arms to be stopped a little higher than the parked position, allowing the wiper arms to be pulled away for blade changes as well as general cleaning of the windshield cowling.

Unrepaired, it may or may not rust since the chips are so small and it's not obvious whether the primer is still intact. You should cover it up by having the chips touched up. However, since the paint is metallic, it can be difficult to get a repair to look like the original paint. I'm noticing that some of these Stinger colors aren't yet listed at automotivetouchup.com which sells touch up paints that are good matches. I have several chips that i want to repair myself, and one scratch that dealer was supposed to fix. But as of late 2018, they claimed to not have the paint in stock yet.

Gently lift the wiper arm, and check to make sure that actually is the contact point for the wiper when it is raised. Myself and at least a couple of other people had small chips on the driver's side in what looks like the same spot, but it was NOT where the wiper arm would contact the hood.

This was on model year 18 cars, and I haven't heard of the same on 19's - please advise if you find this is outside the physical wiper contact area. My feeling is it was some sharp physical contact in either the robotic movement or manual installation of the hood during manufacturing or assembly, that caused this damage to show up in the same spot on different cars.

On my car it was down to the primer (not metal) in a very small spot. I sanded the edges of the chip smooth, gradually filled the depression with 3 light applications of touch up paint (allowing each to dry), put a layer of clear over top, and sanded that lightly with 3000 grit wet. I have to feel along the edge of the hood for the slight bump now to locate where it was - can't see it visually.

it has enough paint to protect it from rust , I would still suggest putting vinyl on it as well as the contact point of the blade , I'll try to get a few pics of mine , its virtually invisible .............

Seems OK to me. It's only because you know its there that it really bugs you. New cars eventually get chips in the paint but usually at the front of the car from stones. Don't worry about it.

It is protected from the elements, so if that is your primary concern, I'd say don't worry about rust.

However, if it was mine and I had to look at that regularly it would bug the crap out of me. I would have the dealer pay to fix it properly. This involves light sanding and multiple thin layers of the correct color and the clear coat too.

At the rear edge of the hood is probably the least noticeable spot for chipping. I'd add a couple more coats of the Blue. Then PPF the entire hood and bumper. You'll never see it after that (unless you give in to your dark OC side and peer down at it in full sunlight).
