CEL code P0084

Hey everyone I tried searching and couldn’t find anyone with this code.

The car is driven minimally as I have a work vehicle I drive mainly. 2018 GT limited with intakes, bov and muffler/resonator delete which were all done months ago with zero issues.

Filled the car up two days ago, hopped in it yesterday and after a couple minutes CEL came on, no sport mode no boost etc. Went to autozone and used their machine and the code P0084 popped up. Looked it up and it said

Exhaust Valve Timing Control Magnet Retarder Circuit Bank 2.​

Any ideas? Thanks everyone

I didn’t, ill be grabbing my own reader today to have on hand and ill clear it and see if it comes back or not.

I did see that when I did a search, just wasn’t really sure of a possible cause or if any of the mods I have would have triggered It. I wouldn’t think they would but you never know. I do have the extended warranty so ill call the local kia dealer and drop it off to them and see what they say.

To update this thread. Took it to Kia and apparently an animal chewed through major electrical wires. Of course the cars original warranty and the extended warranty I bought wont cover it. It’s a $4000 job with parts and labor. Service advisor says to file an insurance claim.

Maybe try through homeowners since if it was on your property.

I currently rent so no homeowners. Tbh I am at a loss for words at the cost. Im going to call around to see if another shop can do it cheaper. I am still trying to wrap my head around 4k in wiring with cost and labor.

Some renters insurance might cover. I would check. And if the first person says no call back and check with a second person. Sometimes they don’t have their stuff together.

It really does! I have a work vehicle that also sits in the driveway that would have been fully paid for and fixed but of course the rodent goes for the Stinger. Just the way the cookie crumbles I guess.

That would be great. I am going to contact another shop to see if they will quote me a similar price.

Insurance company is supposed to send out somebody this upcoming week. With the luck lately, they wont cover it.

Yup , had some rodents chew up some wires and used Tomcat spray and an electric sonic device to keep them away after , no issues since

no , it plugs in to a socket and is placed under the car where you park
