I've had an orange cat hanging around my yard for about a week now. I guess I have a new cat. I've even gone so far as to give it a name. Of course it's Stinger!

I had two orange kitty cats hanging around, but the background one was apparently driven off by the muscular foreground one. I put out food to attract the neighborhood cats, so that mice will get a clue and go somewhere else. Seems to be working. "Bibs" and I have a growing relationship: at first, she was feral as all get out, then all of a sudden, she started leading me down to the food bowl, meowing, and then she started butting into my knuckles and wrists as I poured the food in (scattering it the silly thing). Now I can sit on the couch and hold my hands out and Bibs gets a rub until she's had enough and starts for the food bowl. Scary animal! I've pulled away and she'll suddenly bat/box at my fingers as they are withdrawn, and a single claw will draw a tiny bead of blood: almost like she's reminding me that I am in her good graces only because she's decided: and she could tear hunks of flesh from me at any moment if she wanted to. A cat decides about humans on its own terms.

We will be taking it to the vet soon. Depending on what he's tells us, that may result in some weight reduction.

I basically live in the middle of a field and never have mice. I do have a few other cats also.
