Can i beat a tesla

gah... i know people like that.... it's so frustrating cause these people won't change their mind regardless of proven facts so it's pointless to even argue ...
Exactly, not worth it. Destroying his little hatchback would bring me immense joy in the moment, but I know he still wouldn't admit my car is faster anyways and it would just lead to a different argument.

Not a Tesla, but another EV. My step dad is the kind of guy that can never let me have anything better or faster than him. He has a Chevy Bolt and he's convinced it's faster than my Stinger, he says he took it to a track and it was faster than Mustangs and Camaros and I just rolled my eyes. He asked what the 0-60 time was on the Stinger and when I told him he got this shocked look and then claimed the Bolt's 0-60 is 4 seconds which is easily disprovable considering we all have smartphones, but I didn't think it was worth it since he can't ever be wrong. He said we were going to race but mysteriously never challenged me.
I don't understand people like that. There's the one thing where I become somewhat of a walking encyclopedia of useless car stats, but I can be wrong. There's another thing where people just state blatantly false stuff to try and "one up" everyone and it's just downright pathological at times. When called out, they simply move on to the next unbelievable "fact"...

Yeah, exactly. I do my best to tell my stories as accurately as possible. I guess some people want to compete, but have nothing to compete with, so they make shit up?

I usually just stop hanging out with those people - tough if it's your family.

Base model you should get but may want to have the guy show you the screen when it is started. Dual motors and "performance" you will be in trouble.

Not sure I can agree 100% with this - my modified LGT (which was slower than the Stinger) was even with a Model 3 through 1st gear several times, and then in 2nd I started to pull away.

Mind you, the LGT didn't have any nannies, but I wasn't super-aggressively torque-braking either, just a little. Stock LC will put you at a big disadvantage, that's true, and maybe you're factoring that in? Once moving, I would expect the Stinger to gain, not lose on a base model 3. I found 1/4 mile for base model 3 is 13.6 - most stock Stingers should be able to do that.
Car and Driver managed a 12.9 out of the Stinger, which most drivers won’t manage. Motortrend got a much more realistic 13.6. Standard RWD Model 3 manages a consistent 13.5. With those numbers it’s up to the driver. Once again, that’s if we’re talking about a standard base model RWD Model 3. Anything else, the Model 3 has it in 1/4 mile.

I can’t personally attest to the base. I have a long range with acceleration boost that manages a consistent low 3 0-60. Even my modified Stinger couldn’t hold a candle from a dig or moderate (sub 60mph) roll.

Well, depends a LITTLE. I.e. launch mode is notoriously slow, so if you're doing 0-30 or stoplight to some fixed point that's not far away, you might not have time to catch him.

I had a Legacy GT wagon (AWD, auto with a bunch of mods) and I was even with a model 3 until 2nd gear hit, then I began to pull away (torque multiplication FTW!). However, I could launch faster in the LGT (first 10-20 feet) than the Stinger.

With a jb4, it won't even be close.
noice!!!

I've gone through this before and while I usually just let it roll off me, it becomes like a broken record and every time that you see that person, it's the same thing. Trying to get your point across to someone who's not even listening or reasonable just gets old after a while. It came ot the point that it was either do something about it or not go to Family events.

I'd challenge him to a race in front of people and tell him that if he's so sure that he'll beat you, to put up some money (Put up or Shut Up). It's always better to have skin in the game, especially if you know you're right. Some people just have to be proven wrong. Another thing is to bring someone along so that he can't say that you're mistaken and he just had a bad start or some other excuse.

You do it in front of people to make him either back down with the insanity or get him to race you and put an end to the Craziness. Forget that he's your Father in Law and now he's just become another Smack talker that has gotten on your nerves!

Last, but not least, if you think that you are that much quicker than him, then give him the bust (let him take off first and then you have to play catch up with him) and then reel him in. This limits his excuses and shows that your car is not only faster, but fast enough to catch up and pass him.

I'd also suggest that you first tell your Wife what you plan to do because I don't know about you, but my Dog house isn't that big and sleeping in it isn't Very comfortable (I've been in it quite a few times too, so I do know what I'm talking about :D ).

Just the thoughts of someone who has walked in your shoes!

I Apologize for hi-jacking this thread too and now Please back to our regularly scheduled program!

no you're fine trust me

some people can never be wrong or admit to not knowing something or see themselves as experts in everything

I find it maddening to say the least

I remember having a conversation with my gf's mom about 1099 and explaining to her how I can write off certain expenses... it was like pulling teeth... she kept repeating "that doesn't sound right" or "sounds kinda illegal to me" or "I feel like that's not how it works" etc... classic feelings vs facts... but then again she married in her early 20's and never had to work a job so perhaps I was the fool of entertaining that conversation in the first place...

If it is a base model 3 you probably have a good chance. A family Member of mine has a top of the line performance and the acceleration in that thing is insane. It can easily beat 99% of cars on the road.
